Kuwait Airways

Many thanks although I was only thinking of the Manchester Kuwait leg. I cannot imagine Kuwait JFK has a massive load factor but maybe it does!

Not sure it plans to stop at MAN on the return leg. We think a terminator service to MAN starts in September but nothing confirmed.

Certainly, at present, only routes KWI-MAN-JFK-KWI assusing DOT approval is granted.

I have a friend who spoke to an airport worker who confirmed they knew about it.
Not sure how reliable this is but might be of interest

Aviation Week appears in fairness to he just a spotters blog regurgitated from pprune and I suspect F4.

Whilst it "appears" to be authorative data I doubt it brings anything to the party. Interesting of course, but KU are still pushing for a relaxation of this tech stop and as far as I was was aware nothing has changed. Yes it's still coming but it will evaporate in an instant if they get direct access. That isn't to say they are not interested in a direct service of course

Yes, this is a temporary procedure, however a direct service is hopefully still on the cards.

New Information, from the person who seems to be 'in the know' of Kuwait Airlines on a.net:
Manchester will be instead of Shannon as a trial, Later KU will resume KWI JFK direct non stop, Manchester will stay as a new destination served twice a week by A330-200

Inevitable that once JFK can be done non-stop it will be but good to see MAN will hopefully be used as a transit point and it is definitely in the view of continuing to a direct terminator service, with an A330-200

Furthermore, according to User001, Kuwait-Manchester stand alone flights will be announced July, for an October 1st start.

I thought the ban on non stop was also due to not allowing passengers with passport stamps Ex Israel?

Has something changed to allow a direct JFK. Cannot see it.

Can anybody confirm?

I thought exactly the same

That might be the issue that prevents 5th freedom traffic to JFK.

The issue with none stop KWI-JFK is the same as with PIA in that the US security agencies are unsatisfied with local security levels, and particularly passenger vetting standards in Kuwait such that they are demanding secondary screening at an intermediate point to approved standards.

Passengers would be trooped off at Manchester re screened and trooped back on. Any one failing screening would be detained in Manchester and returned east ( might well have a nice escorted mini bus ride down to Slough Windsor and Hounslow regional)or more probably via Doha/Dubai or Abu Dhabi same day.

These potential transit passengers would add to the terminal passenger numbers by a hundred or two a day.

They will not be selling Man-JFK anywhere through.

I think we understand the logistics. The point was more about certain forums "assuming" direct Kwi jfk as a given.....

Many thanks for re clarification.

Reported on that other site that the transit flights have been pushed back to 22 April.
Can anyone confirm?

Apparently transit flights not happening now. KU focusing on terminating service to Manchester, as reported above to be announced in July, beginning October twice weekly A330-200 to begin with.

From a reliable source:

"Apparently the KU flight will continue to use SNN until 21st April, and then switch to MAN. This is to give KU enough time to get all GSA sorted at MAN."

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
