I think everyone on this forum will be disappointed with the Wizz offering but like it’s been said before they have aircraft with dodgy engines so a good chunk of the fleet will be grounded, I think if we have not got more routes or better frequencies in 12 months time that’s when we should be disappointed

Could be longer as I read the engine issues will last well into 2025. They are extending the lease on some older aircraft, and there will be a steady delivery of new NEOs but from January 24 they will be minus 45 aircraft.

What exactly are the issues with the engines? Anyone with tech knowledge?
It is a shame though that wizz have now discontinued 2 LBA routes because those 2 routes would of built up a reg customer base of which they will now simply go elsewhere, its also a shame they could not just reduce frequency on the 2 routes for some time, perhaps this would not go down well with passengers or maybe cause other schedules at the 2 airports to be affected who knows, but still in my opinion reduced frequency is better than nowt which does make me a little suspicious!

The Wizz thread on the Liverpool forum is a more positive read. I do wonder if the Wizz reduction on flying from LBA to some extent because of the night flying fiasco. I think they have been incredibly accommodating by moving flight times at short notice and now moving flights to daytime operating hours. Obviously we know this isn't the fault of LBA but it could just be down to the constraints of daytime ops and lack of available aircraft.

Iasi and Bucharest flights being increased from Liverpool for next year together with increased Wizz flights to Gdansk over the Christmas period. Something somewhere does not seem right with their offering from LBA yet we are constantly told loadings are good.

But, I seem to recall that LPL lost their route to Cluj Napoca? And LPL is a long established airport for Wizz.

As for constantly being told that loadings are good, yes I reported what the airport CEO reported to the Consultative Committee quite some time ago. That information keeps being regurgitated but I've only reported it once. I've been told by others within LBA that loads have been good but not reported it here, nor do I recall anyone else, who are in a position to know, saying anything about loads. The stats that have been published on here seem to show decent numbers but whether they translate into good loads after being divided by the number of flights on each route, I wouldn't know.

What I would say though is that we have lost at two routes from Wizz but still have a service to Wroclaw and Katowice is close to Krakow, where Wizz and Ryanair both fly to. I'd rather lose those than the likes of Bucharest or Cluj Napoca. Only time will tell if the losses are temporary - there's another meeting on 20th December, so I can feel a question coming on....

Another blow.. Wizz Gdańsk last flight 15 Jan before starting again March. Common theme here.. not good at all. Engine problems or not they’re still announcing a shed load of routes from other airports. Disappointing and concerning if you ask me.

The issue revolves around the early on set of small cracks and metal fatigue in the stage one and two turbine discs in the P&W engines requiring inspection and replacement where required.

Apparently it could take up to 18 months for Pratt & Witney to work through it.

Someone going to get a big bill !!!

Something strange happening with the Wizz Air website booking engine as it looks like the Leeds - Katowice route is been reloaded back up for January to end march 2024.

I wonder if they are doing a update to both the winter & summer 2024 flight schedules to take in account the down time for aircraft. Hence why all theses changes have started to randomly appear over the past few days. If so I'ld say give it a few days to settle down.

To put it into context 45 aircraft is around 25% of the current fleet which is a huge problem. Little wonder routes are being cut/shelved.

One of the issues Wizz and other airlines affected is they do not know how long each aircraft will be out of service until inspection, if no fault is found it can return to service quickly probably under notice for regular checks. If remedial action is required it is rather a longer job.

You can probably expect more short notice changes by Wizz across their network for sometime to come.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
