Leeds Bradford: New Route Development & Rumours

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
Aircraft unavailability is given as the reason for Aurigny pulling out of LBA but this would appear to be self imposed. They will operate their Summer 2027 services with five instead of six ATRs, with one aircraft being held in reserve to cover service issues, to improve reliability and cut costs associated with delays/cancellations. To do this something had to give, unfortunately their LBA. service.

So I wonder who will operate the now newly certified Boeing 737-MAX10 into LBA first. Ryanair or TUI?
At 128 (so far) flights per week as opposed to 4 flights per week I know where my money is. Most likely first visit will be Ryanair subbing an aircraft to Dublin, I can see future services to Alicante and Krakow in particular using non-based aircraft

I doubt this airport will see the Max 10. Very restrictive in terms of length of fuselage and gear height. It would give me the eeebie jeebies seeing that get airborne at LBA. Or worse - landing on Runway 32 on a very windy day.

Always assuming it can operate out of LBA given its inferior short field performance compared with the other Max models due to its increased MTOW and a worse power to weight ratio.

Apparently it has a specially designed landing gear to overcome the increased likelihood of a tail strike due to the extra fuselage length.

Well I for one suspect it’s very plausible a Ryanair Boeing 737-MAX10 will turn up within the next Year on the Dublin route, very short run over the Irish Sea. They plan to have 5x based over there next summer along with 7x at Stansted.

Interesting one to keep an eye on for sure.

With only 5 I would imagine that the 5 will be deployed on dense routes where Ryanair can fill, without much lowering of fares. LBA I don’t suspect is high on the list.

That could apply to LBA too. Last weekend we had 3 Ryanair Dublin flights within a few hours in one morning. The demand must be there.
However, I would think any MAX10 at LBA would be a rarity. The MAX8 is fine.

On a weekend the flights fill effortlessly, on a midweek day absolutely not. However I believe the yield will be too low for them to regularly bother except for substitutions which is how we got our first MAX 8 visits in 2021/2022

Does that mean we will eventually lose Ryanair then as their whole fleet will become MAX 10’s over time.

Ryanair would have a major issue if that was the case as there are a number of routes across the Mediterranean especially Greece which have far more restrictive runways then LBA and add in the summer heat they’d be pulling a significant number of routes all over the place……

It won’t become solely Max10’s. It’s going to be mixed between Max8200 and Max10. Plus 290 737-800 remain in 2034. (q1 2027 financial presentation).

By that point Boeing will have developed a new narrow-body. Or Airbus will have. Or both. Which … Ryanair will hold orders for.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
