The airport apparently believes it has gone but you may be right. I doubt they will return in the summer as it caters for many south Italian expats and so isn’t necessarily a seasonal market. If they are expanding from a given airport you would likely see STN then DUB (REG not served) then...
In addition, WizzAir is slowly losing interest in UK. Their core VFR routes to Poland from UK are seeing decreasing demand as Poles head home for good. Only Romania still has adequate demand. The airline has increasing financial problems and so is chasing better profits elsewhere. And Wizzair UK...
Ryanair is pulling all Reggio flights to UK. Disappeared from MAN a while ago so a non starter for BHX. The tourist infrastructure is not so advanced in that area so no to Jet2 either, for now. Rimini, a definite possibility. More UK flights to CAG would also seem realistic at some stage.
The problem is that airlines are not really interested in the passenger experience at the airport. For them profit is all that matters. As long as they can get slots, the terminal building is of no importance. Makes you wonder why they spend so much to upgrade facilities.
I think you must look to factors other than poor timings as they are/were operating typical second and third bank timings from LBA, one or two earlier and one very late arrival into BCN. Given that many of the seats would be taken by EZY Holidays, I doubt it would be a factor. Their departure is...
TUI has never positioned itself as a stand alone airline but rather an in-house operator for Thomson/TUI. Jet2 was a stand alone operation which now, like TUI, operates mainly for a holiday company. Both will sell off extra seats where the forecast suggests the holiday company will not need...

The coincidence of different airlines flying to destinations on the same day is often down to technical requirements at the other end - hotel switch over days, coach availability, airport slots etc. There would be some merit, I would have thought, in offering different days from your competition...
But is that not what airlines want? They are not trying to make life easy for local residents.
But I think the dropping of BFS is odd given the good loads.
