A few small updates:
Construction has started near the remote stands on what I believe is a more permanent gatehouse/vehicle access point, similar to the existing one near the cargo buildings. The existing cabin has become increasingly inadequate with the volume of construction vehicles for both runways repairs and terminal works, on top of movements between Multiflight and the main Apron.
Hoardings have been removed around the stand 3-4 area with the imminent completion of the CSZ. I wonder if we will see this area reconfigured as a stand soon.
Sunday is Boots' final day of operation. I assume WHSmith is the same, with the new location nearly fully stocked and ready for opening.
Work is clearly being done overnight in the unrenovated area opposite Boots, as new plasterboard is up to support the new layout. Parts of world duty free have also been ripped out
Accessorize and Inmotion were unrecognisable inside within a few days of closure. I don't think it will take long to transform this last area of departures.
Good progress is being made on the new gate 7, with the area being recently re-enclosed in glass, with access doors and a new stairwell
And soon it will be much bigger still. Starting on Monday.OMG. I am genuinely stunned at how amazing and massive the terminal is now. This is on a par with many European airports I have visited. Superb video
I wouldn't go that far, but I agree; it's definitely an improvement. This is on a par with many European airports
Its not that much of trek really though is it. In comparison to other airports, you can be walking 20-30 minute to get to a gate, from anywhere. Airport expanding, longer walks, who would of thought. Cant please everyone. So, is you are departing from gates 1-3 and want to use a lounge its a hell of a trek there and back.
Yes will be needed for the 8 daily Emerald ATRs on BOTH BHD and DUB as well as the double daily GR GCI flights!!!!!!!With the gradual withdrawal of the Jet2 733s and the increasing numbers of 738s (and Airbuses) stands 1, 5 and 6 will become less and less suitable for parking Jet2 aircraft. I expect this is already being addressed behind the scenes but stands 3 and 4 also need reinstating somehow.
People must be buying duty free. If they weren't, World Duty Free would not be taking on an enlarged new area that no doubt is costing considerably more to rent or lease from LBA.Under the regen plans we will lose, Boots, Accessorize and Inmotion and gain an expanded duty free and WHSmiths along with some others. The duty free area though is the predominant retail space in the expanded terminal. Open question - Do people actually buy there anymore? I spend at the airport but it would tend to be something to eat and drink and something from Boots for the plane, or if I’d forgotten something; I never buy from duty free either here or abroad, and the video above shows lots of browsing but does this translate to purchases.
I’m sure it must be profitable, but I wonder if a slightly smaller space for duty free, but more overall retail offerings would be better for passengers and the airport profitability?
I think the Duty Free prices are reasonable and better than high street prices.People must be buying duty free. If they weren't, World Duty Free would not be taking on an enlarged new area that no doubt is costing considerably more to rent or lease from LBA.
I believe there is also a sports retailer opening, so I imagine JD Sports.Under the regen plans we will lose, Boots, Accessorize and Inmotion and gain an expanded duty free and WHSmiths along with some others. I think a better idea than reactivating stand 3 would be to move the fire station to Multiflight, as rumours have suggested may happen, and reconfigure stand 1 to accept larger aircraft. 4 and 5 should merge. With the gradual withdrawal of the Jet2 733s and the increasing numbers of 738s (and Airbuses) stands 1, 5 and 6 will become less and less suitable for parking Jet2 aircraft. The planned modification of the Instrument Landing System mentioned sometime ago as part of the REGEN work resolves previous glidepath signal interference on stands 1,4 and 5. Consequently, fully operational again these stands can handle aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A320.I think a better idea than reactivating stand 3 would be to move the fire station to Multiflight, as rumours have suggested may happen, and reconfigure stand 1 to accept larger aircraft. 4 and 5 should merge.
