Leeds Bradford: £100m Regeneration Programme REGEN

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
You may have a long wait as LBA seem to have said no to one now on cost grounds. I asked at the ACC earlier in the year. Apparently they cost a small fortune!
That's a shame, but not surprising. I'm sure someone will upload one to YouTube soon.

Btw, do you know what part of the refurbishment is next, Heather?

The remainder of the first floor is next with a focus on where the old Duty Free was, removing the lift and escalator from the old security and opening the last retail units in those locations. The last to open will be belt 4 and 5 of international arrivals and belt 6 domestic arrivals followed by the new arrivals meet and greet area. For dates look in the Consultative Committee thread.

This is LBA….not MAN. I was just saying what a ball ache for any passengers boarding from gates 1-3 and wanting to use the lounge.
No idea why you cannot quote on my post.
I timed the walk at a steady pace whilst navigating around many people at a peak hour.

Gate 2 to the lounge: 1 minute 55 seconds.
Lounge to gate 2 area : 2 minutes 2 seconds.

All gone very quiet, hopefully both sides are still talking to avert the strike.
There is a lot of disquiet and confusion expressed on line given the polar opposite views given by Unite and LBA as to the impact. If everyone goes on strike that are in Unite, (all 130) how can the airport operate? Who else can operate the new CSZ without genrating queues into the car park? Or maintain ATC? Perhaps LBA need to explain in detail so passengers and airlines know what to expect?
That said, I agree that hopefully LBA and Unite can reach agreement as they did 3 years ago when they also threatened strike action.

When I worked at the airport about 12 years ago, the security team sat at around 100 staff. I suspect overall numbers haven't changed dramatically since, as process improvements have helped streamline specific roles.
Then, as now, managers held NASP Level 1 security qualifications to step in and cover essential areas when required. You also have non-unionised personnel who don't participate in strikes.
Regarding ATC, I recall there being a 20-minute break for every 20 minutes on operational duty, though I'm less certain of the current break rotations but industrial action usually leads to 20 minute spells of disruption followed by 20 minutes open depending on the number of staff unionised.

CAA requirements.

“MAXIMUM TIME PROVIDING AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SERVICE WITHOUT BREAKS
Together, the following rostering principles are means by which an air traffic control service provider can design a rostering system(s) which manages the risks of occupational fatigue of air traffic controllers:

(a) The maximum time providing ATC service without a break should not exceed 2 hours.
(b) Notwithstanding point (a), at units where workload for any part of the day is judged
to be low and the activity is spasmodic rather than continuous, the maximum time
providing ATC service without a break, at these times, should not exceed 4 hours.
(c) Notwithstanding points (a) and (b), for a controller on an ‘early start duty’ (see AMC1
.45 Duty period) commencing before 0600, all operational duty periods shall be limited
to 1.5 hours. For a controller on an ‘early start duty’ commencing at or after 0600, the
first operational duty period shall be limited to 1.5 hours.
The ratio of operational duty periods to breaks should be 1:4; for example, 15 minutes break for 1 hour operational duty period.”
So some flexibility within the rules for LBA to work around some of the strike action. Whether airlines would be willing to accept breaks in ATC cover disrupting their schedules possibly causing diversions remains to be seen.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
