Yes. Did you mean to add anything other than exclamation marks? Peel now own the majority share in Haworth, they control all of the development land that surrounds the airport. Now I don’t expect for one minute that they intend to build high rise buildings on the land, but airports do have a habit of restricting what can be built in the area, this may include things like solar farms, wind turbines and the like.the Peel sweep of Haworth where they now have controlling shares and ultimately own all of the land surrounding the airport. !!!!!!!!
I think unless it is totally new, there is nothing to post about. I think that it has been said what the members think about this project. One thing that is very noticeable to the uneducated (i.e. me) in relation to this project is the massive reduction in posts on this thread. This I believe tells its own story in its own right
The promises weren’t made, the slogan Ros Jones ran with when they pushed through the terrible lease agreement was that the airport was expected to reopen ‘spring 2026 as bidder identified’. They argue the airport is open in the sense that 2Excel can fly in and out as needed on an unlicensed basis. The 737 in the picture was just semantics.I think unless it is totally new, there is nothing to post about. I think that it has been said what the members think about this project.
The only way you get will any posts is:
1. an airline is intending to start servies, or
2. they pull the plug on it. (not likely to happen for a while yet.)
I wonder if anyone has thought of doing a survey to ask residents what they think of the broken promise of flights in April 2026?
Jet2 have however only last month endorsed their support publicly for LBA in respect of their amendment to the night flight regs through a statement from Steve Heapy. The issue FlyDSA have however is nobody would endorse a project publicly which potentially would implicate them if it all falls apart! There also remains the key issue that DSA is a basket case commercially and even more so now given the state of the industry. No airline will want to commit any investment in the short to medium term they see how it works out given its history. They may with some sort of written guarantee but do FlyDSA have the cash to provide that? The promises weren’t made, the slogan Ros Jones ran with when they pushed through the terrible lease agreement was that the airport was expected to reopen ‘spring 2026 as bidder identified’. As for potential airline partners. I remember in the early 2000’s and before the Public Enquiry, Peel had an MOU with a group of airlines that they used as backup to justify the airport project. I appreciate that the pool of airlines is much smaller now and some may want to keep their cards close to their chest in this regard - say purely hypothetically jet2 decided they were going to move lock, stock and barrel to DSA then they wouldn’t announce it early because LBA would do all in their power to mane sure that didn’t happen. However there is nothing stopping TUI or easyJet publicly announcing an MOU to operate from the airport if the funding is approved, in fact that would be far more likely to add weight to the project. The fact they haven’t yet I think perhaps speaks volumes. They don’t have to fully commit, but they haven’t even backed the project publicly apart from TUI offering a ‘watching with interest’ statement. That’s not good enough.
As for the lease, we can’t say with 100% confidence that negotiations have stalled, but given it’s been in the workings for over 13 months, it’s pretty safe to say they ain’t budging.
The question now is, if they do shelve the project how will they do it? They’re too far in to just admit defeat and wrap it all up. That would be political suicide. Are they going to continue spending indefinitely? Is the first thing we know going to be when the breakers tear a strip out the centre of the runway?
