Let's look at the positives and negatives here starting with the latter:
TUI: Perhaps lost their way generally, not just at LBA
easyJet: Big changes coming network wide as part of the Castlelake takeover (proposed)
Wizz: Losing faith with the UK market generally:
Industry as a whole: In some...
It's all quite interesting this. easyJet have made some very strange route announcements just recently which includes some cutting back at LBA (yes I am biased) but think the axing of GVA, AGP and PMI from LBA is not too much about whether they are profitable, but are they profitable enough...
The UK domestic market isn't what it was and we know we suffer from being centrally located with a good train service from Leeds itself to various parts of the UK so we can forget most of the UK stuff - would say London, Newquay, Southampton (which nearly happened for this year) and Aberdeen...
The flip side of that is if good loads/yields happen at 1 weekly then frequency could increase. I know I sound like a stuck record but Jet2 rarely get things wrong.
P s posting this is more interesting than watching England at the moment!
We equally don't like going on holiday for 7 nights, we prefer 10/11 so again that needs at least 2 flights a week. Flexibility is absolutely key these days
LBA almost being a victim of Jet2's success. But as has already been said a base would ultimately have given better timings but we are where we are. It brings us back to "thank you Jet2 for believing in LBA in the first place" otherwise I don't know if we would be where we are today
There will become a point I guess where the number of A21Ns will far outweigh the B738s so it then becomes a matter for the LS bean counters to decide how long it's sensible to persist with a mixed fleet. Some 738s are as old as the 733s but the newer 738s are what say 10 years old so would...
Lots of suggestions elsewhere that these slot requests by Emerald are just using LBA as the destination to mask their true plans/destination(s). That said I agree @lbaspotter it would be good to know if there is anything in it for LBA although some commercial confidentiality will surely be at...
Once again, whilst the loss of 3 easyJet routes plus Sun Express and no interest from BA re a return is disappointing, and perhaps even frustrating, by putting a few things into context does mean things aren't as bad as they may initially seem:
DSA - still closed with any potential reopening...
I think what drives everyone's frustrations is the fishing (and I don't mean phishing) posts asking the same repeat questions, or perhaps even guessing without foundation. That said, the enthusiasm shouldn't be discouraged as that enthusiasm remains a general valuable contribution to the forum
Thanks @White Heather for the usual fantastic update. Very disappointing overall on the airline/routes element, but I suppose nothing we didn't expect tbh. Hopefully bounce back occurs quickly
I believe it's because the hotter the weather the less lift is created, or something like that so they will be using the increased TODA that a 14 take off run provides. I am no technical expert though so happy to be corrected or for someone to give a more detailed technical explanation
