It’s the time of year we can’t grow fruit and and a lot of veg outdoors here - so I don’t think the flights carrying a lot of it is out of the question.
Strawberries, Onions and Potatoes can all come from egypt during the european winter.
Thats a shame they aren’t likely to be coming back. My vueling flight at the end of september was half full and perhaps 2/3 full on the way back.
Ryanair will no doubt see the opportunity but whether it’s too late for a summer up gauge or not.
It’s interesting they’ve not gone for a night operation. Although getting freight out through brynglas at say lunchtime is still easier than bringing it the other way during late afternoon.
I was shocked at the amount and variety of destinations now available from SOU and BOH - i remember a time when these were minor airports in comparison to CWL. Not to mention you have Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI all at BOH.
It would be interesting to know where YYZ was on the list in terms of most popular unserved destinations (or served 1 stop). It must of been up there for west jet to think there was a market.
Did Ryanair fly to Barcelona pre covid? I just about remember malta now you mention it.
bmibaby flying to secondary spanish cities Murcia and Almeria seems like a different world now.
In my opinion i think it’s unlikely the orange airline will ever operate the route but with their new PE backers who will want a 5-7 year turnaround on their investment and need quick growth it’s the closest to happening it’s ever been i’d say!
Was the issue with loganair though the base fare being too high due to the small aircraft?
I heard of some fares being £300 return. £600 for a couple to go away for the weekend.
