Apparently the Liverpool-FRA flights are also being culled.
This could simply be a reflection of LH's hub strategy, for which there may be several drivers:
* SAS is almost certainly leaving *A and joining Skyteam next year, so LH group may be looking to reinforce its nordic market presence, and needs the capacity to do so.
* LH is also planning to acquire a major stake in ITA and will probably route more traffic from Italy through its hubs as a result
* It has been announced that the Schengen EES will start on 6/10/24 and with all those additional biometrics to collect/verify, FRA may need to scale back the extra-schengen short haul network, at least initially.
As others have suggested, there appears to be a market for *A connecting traffic ex BRS (I myself have used LH/LX on two trips this year). AMS seems to be having capacity/environmental issues, so If LH also see it that way, they may replace FRA with a different hub used by an airline from the group i.e. BRU, VIE, MUC or extra flights to ZRH.
There seems to be a lot of optimism amongst airlines at the moment (or a lot of spare cash!), with Turkish and Easy Jet announcing huge orders for new aircraft. I find it hard to believe that LH group would deliberately want to be left behind.
