Leeds Bradford: Wizz Air Flights, New Routes & Schedule Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
It's also interesting how the diverts which are the usual focus of attention for a certain few, (roll eyes) , yet the same challenges are also present for Ryanair, Jet2, KLM and any other airlines using LBA. Pretty much proves the talk about bad weather is all rubbish. A bad weather record during one winter can also be ok the next, it's the very nature of weather.

There's a lot of focussing on just LBA here and theories about diverts etc. (as usual), but that doesn't apply at BHX yet they too are included in the cuts. There are many other cuts across Europe. Do they all have a divert problem? And exactly how many Wizz flights have diverted anyway?

Has it crossed anyone's mind that these routes have been canned temporarily by agreement with LBA because they are already covered by other airlines? If Wizz need to make cuts then best cut the routes that are still served so the market for those flights isn't lost completely, and in the future it's easier to bring them back. We were told up front there would be cuts to routes and frequencies and not just at LBA. Some routes were cut this month and were due back later in the year. Now a second tranche have been cut and maybe they will come back later too. It's going to take into 2025 to complete the engine checks so throughout 2024 there will be reductions. I suspect some airports have suffered far worse than LBA. Perhaps they have all done so because of their diverts too?!

You are both quiet correct @White Heather & @Aviador , You've only got to look at Birmingham's cuts, Its losing 3 routes as follows.

Krakow = was 4x weekly
Warsaw Chopin = Was 3x weekly
Wroclaw = Was 2x weekly.

To those who blame the weather and the diverts at LBA, How do you explain the above cuts at BHX?

Also FR have ramped up the completion on most routes this winter as some days they are following each other over the north sea, knowing
FR their timings and fares will be more favourable . I do hope this is not the slow start of a gradual withdrawal - how's Liverpool comparing with others have they had any cuts this winter!

Didn't LPL lose the Cluj Napoca route? A route that still operates at LBA. It should also be remembered that like LTN, LPL is a long standing and well established Wizz destination.

Makes you wonder how long Wizz's Gdansk and Bucharest routes will continue given they are competing with Ryanair.

The reason there is a lot of focus on LBA here is because it's the LBA Wizz Air thread.

I am as disappointed as anyone about the Wizz cuts especially when I am in the main very positive about, as well as being whole-heartedly supportive of, LBA.

There are clearly a lot of factors affecting things here, yes not just LBA related, I just hope I am completely wrong that they are towards the top of the slippery slope

My point is that this isn't something only affecting LBA! You would think it was just us judging by some comments which suggest they are not doing well here, or have pulled routes because of the diversion rate. Or the company is in trouble. In fact it seems that any negative reason is looked for rather than accept that these cuts are widespread, affecting many airports and routes as a result of a rolling reduction in the fleet, just as Wizz Air (and LBA) said would be necessary.

Of course this is a forum and we are all entitled to our views and opinions, but of course we have to be careful that what we say is factual and not slanderous in any way.

As I have said all along my own views re Wizz are nothing I know or am privy to, just a hunch I have and I will say again that I am more than happy to be proven wrong with that hunch for LBA's sake, Wizzair's sake and the aviation/travel industry as a whole's sake

Of course, but there seems to be an underlying negativity re Wizz Air and their operations despite what we all know is happening with their fleet as though we thought LBA would be exempt in some way. We can't compare ourselves with their long established bases which are always likely to be least affected . With a large number of aircraft out of use, Wizz were always likely to consolidate to a degree which means their smaller operations will be first to go.

The time to be concerned is if these routes don't come back after the fleet is restored to normal or at least if Wizz don't replace them with other routes that are not already operated by Ryanair and/or Jet2 and this becomes a permanent reduction or withdrawal. Until then I prefer to look at the situation with a glass half full (rather than empty) attitude.

Interesting that both BHX and LPL flights to cluj cancelled but although reduced we still keep ours, im looking at the positives here, loads out of LBA must still be good, in fact with the LPL route cancelled it might up our loads

Very good point @LBA4EVER we could indeed benefit - also for anyone north of BHX too. We may be back up to 3, or more, before you know it? The Cluj is in the question haha!
Me and finger been positive, makes a change haha! Yes lets keep an eye on cluj, this route will explain alot!
In my opinion wizz is the airline LBA should definitely keep friends with, i feel they can offer alot to the airport, plus its great seeing the purple airbuses here!

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
