Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
I think we will. Fares were significantly lower and EasyJet holidays were much cheaper than Jet2.

Only lower to gain market share. Once they gained some market share easyJet would also put the prices up. It is inevitable.

New bases or new routes for whichever airline, always means lower prices. Look at Jet2 in London Gatwick.

Significantly lower isn't good for easyJet though is it? If they have to reduces prices to such an extent it will impact their bottom line.

They must account for the losses as part of the longer term strategy - gain market share etc.

It will be interesting in which direction the new owners take the airline once the deal is completed in 2027 as their current losses are unsustainable. I fear a brutal streamlining to get back to profitability, of which withdrawing from LBA and other airports under the current management is only the start. Hopefully I’m wrong.

I was on the inbound Barcelona Leeds last night and the flight was half full. Great crew onboard. Not sure if these are the numbers for every flight but for mid September it’s poor imo. I know they’ve pulled out but this is from the New Year. I’d have assumed a 6.15pm departure albeit delayed until 8pm would have been a decent return time.

I see that today, easyJet launched new routes from ABZ, to BCN and PMI for S27!
Also ABZ-BFS starts operating in Jan-27 (when LBA-BFS ends). Maybe they felt by shifting capacity from LBA to ABZ meant less competition on the same routes.
How many live in Aberdeen area compared to Leeds! T***ers, not happy as now just got Aer Fungus to City to visit family!

Totally mind bogling to say the least, to end the BCN and PMI routes from the UKs 4th most populated region and start ops to those destinations from ABZ Seriously!!! 🤣😡 and BFS! One of LBAs most popular routes, utterly bonkers!

I would to know the airports take on this.

Being completely honest, words fail me with all of this. There just has to be more to this than the spin/narrative being posted by both parties.
If away based flying doesn't work at a successful airport it won't work at a less successful airport. Unless this is, and has been, to test the market ahead of a future base - LBA and ABZ amongst possible others

Exactly my thoughts too finger, utterly bizzare and more to it than what we are been told, but the dropping of the BFS route has to be the biggest shock of all!

I honestly think the biggest shock is the fact Ryanair haven’t taken up the Leeds - Belfast Int’l slack.

As things stand with Sun Express gone & Easyjet going along with TUI cuts I don’t see where all the predicted growth is coming from? Ok Jet2 are increasing capacity by replacing 2x B733 for B738’ but surely that won’t count for it all..

Logically when you consider 41 more seats on a 738 Vs a 733 which will be pretty much fully utilised every day, whilst not having done the specific maths, working on 2 rotations a day per a/c that's 162 seats a day (doubled taking inbound and outbound) so it seems there or thereabouts to me. Some previous U2 pax will be displaced to LS and FR, this increasing/helping existing spare seat capacity too so yes I think there will be growth. FR in the process of uploading S27 so let's see what if anything we get from them - even if by away based flying. If KLM continue with more E295s then all in all it still looks promising at a challenging time for the industry as a whole

Not forgetting 6 new Jet2 routes.

Still time for Ryanair to announce new routes for summer 2027. I doubt LBA would forecast growth in S27 if they had no idea where it might come from. Even if something new waa coming, such as Belfast International, they woukdn't tell us until the airline announces it.

So will 6 more routes need at least another based aircraft? Plus the 2x 733s being retired will presumably need to be replaced? To my mind it seems unlikely the remaining based aircraft can cover all of this.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
