The airport may have made a loss, but this is for a specific reason - carefully planned capital investment to enable the airport to grow substantially in the medium term. The loss has been planned for, and the airport has been profitable in preceding years, this isn’t a struggling business.
They are however like most other businesses having to contend with a significant increase in employment costs as a result of recent political policy changes together with a massive increase in business costs which seem to have hit the airport sector hard…….Hopefully for both employees and the employer the situation can get resolved without the need for strike action which in the longer term will benefit neither party…..

If there are no ATC staff then surely we will be shut. All we need now is the planning application to go 3 sheets to hell in a handcart and really will be screwed.
It may be just the more junior ATC staff with senior controllers who earn a lot more, unaffected. Maybe they are in a different union.

The press will be delighted to make out the airport will be effectively shut even if it's not true. All they do is cause huge upset for thousands booked to fly over the three days.

The Unite press release mentions they are seeking pay parity with other (unspecified) airports. As AENA also operate Luton and Newcastle does this infer employees there doing the same jobs are paid more or is this just a Union red herring?

Does anyone know what is going on near crash gate 2 on airport land? There is currently an excavator there with 4 different sized buckets and the previous container type building have been moved down to the bottom of the slope nearer Multiflight. Early prep for fire station relocation?

Just removing the stand-by tower as far asxI know.

There is now a quite long/large skip lorry here waiting to collect something. It can't currently gain access to the airfield but sure things will become clearer in the short term

Please May I ask which tower you guys are referring to?
It was a red and white pre-fab building from Church Fenton or somewhere. It was positioned on Planetree Hill overlooking the airfield from the south, meant as a temporary facility in case the main tower became unusable.

I heard it was from RNAS Lee-on- Solent, did anyone else think this?

I think you're right. I seem to remember that was its origin probably about 30 years ago now. It was never used. For the last 10 years it's been open to the elements, should have been removed years ago!

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
