Leeds Bradford: Infrastructure & Construction Updates

They might be 24 stands but in the future the area where the current terminal is will create more space when its demolished, those two new stands out in the middle next to the old runway i guess will be constructed during the construction of the terminal as there in the plans?

There are 24 stands on that plan, but I am fairly sure that the plan is to extend those two new stands in the middle towards the West as and when required. There is space to add several more. In the plan the large aircraft in front of the terminal appears to be using up two stands, each of which can be recognised by the Centreline.

In front of the new terminal appear to be mixed use stands so basically, 4 x small to medium sized aircraft or two wide bodied stands. I understand the layout isn't finalised yet so it could change. Some of the other stand may still become mixed stands.

Something worth noting regarding stands in front of the old terminal, aircraft parked on these stands can interfere with the ILS so it's likely usage of these stands will be kept to a minimum. We are aware looking at the planning application documents that the temporary structures such as the Jet2 baggage make-up area and arrivals carrousel number 4 will be removed during the construction phase of the new terminal which will essentially free up space for stands large enough for A320 or 737/800 aircraft parked nose in.



There is so much more to consider as potentially necessary such as a relocation of the air traffic control tower, and the airport fire station and fuel farm.

What about TUI @White Heather and there 787 to some long haul destinations? Orlando, Cancun and Dominican Republic would definitely sell well from Yorkshire?

I think Jet2 will expand a bit more tbh. I'd love loganair to make an appearance offering regional connectivity.

Tui plans are for Doncaster expansion with a minimal presence at Lba in my opinion.
I have two friends who are captains on the B787 and they said they would be unhappy to operate the aircraft into Lba long haul on a regular basis
One of them lives in Cookridge and the other was an Ilkley boy and now lives over the hill in Lancashire.
Remember they would probably be Cat 1 only due to the weight and runway landing distances available.
I have said before something must have happened between Loganair and Lba as the Ceo of Loganair is an ex Lba spotter who I knew when he was a teenager.
He offered me a job at Emirates on the Boeing 727 after he joined them and later was involved with other airlines that operated at Lba and I am sure he was part of the reason they did so.
Lets hope I am wrong or it gets fixed soon.

It's possible but they are still in bed with DSA and anything they put here would undermine their base there, so frankly, I think one 737 is the best we could hope for at LBA unless there is a change in policy. They seem to have given up on competing with Jet2 here. Down at DSA they are just far enough away from a Jet2 base to make a go if it.

Add to that, LBA's focus in the immediate future was said to be increasing business and city routes rather than yet more bucket and spade, although I wouldn't imagine they would say no if another tour operator wanted to get involved.

The ideal would be easyJet who like Jet2 have both markets covered.

Permanent TUI base covering the likes of Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia as well as cruise ports for them would be good. Because I think it'll be a long while before Jet2 goes back North Africa.

easyJet is very much, and should be, a focus of the airport. Business routes as you say they bring. The trouble is, by the time we get them hopefully in, how much of their business model will have changed? I know they'll probably be two routes for certain they'll operate - LBA BFS and LBA AMS.

Anyway as @LBA4EVER says - let's get the thing built first.

Yes easyjet are just as you say the answer to lots of holes in our destination list they will want a couple of lucrative banker destination and like Ryanair will try other destinations to see if they get support.
I want Bergamo back or Malpensa as I love that area and the Italian lakes and mountains not to mention another friend who has property there as he
flies the 787 for Neos and is also an ex Lba native.

Seems to have been the case that Britannia/TUi have always been unhappy about operating at LBA and taken many opportunities not to bother, so they are way down my list of companies to consider booking with. I wouldn't ever trust them to actually fly me to and from LBA, or even fly at all.

Airport bosses are adamant the 787and A350 can operate here. But neither has ever touched down. Only a fly past by the BA 787. I understood they have better airfield performance than the 767 which has operated from here many times.
Whatever, the lack of Cat3 for such aircraft is always going to be detrimental.

True from Day 1 they were anti they had 4 flights a week all operated by Manchester based crews who were shipped in and out by mini bus just like my Dan-Air colleagues on the jet fleet.
Too easy to divert to Manchester and avoid the mini bus ride home !
The 787 is a bit more prone to float on landing as the airframe is lighter I am told than for instance the 767 but they seem to be doing ok at Bristol which as we know is similar but does lead to tech stops from time to time due to take off performance.

Looking at CAA web publications the LDA on LBA's 14 is 1802 metres and on 32 it's 1916 metres with the airport's elevation at 681 ft AMSL.

My nearest airport is Bristol where the LDA is 2011 metres on 09 and 1881 metres on 27 with the airport's elevation at 622 ft AMSL.

TUI bases a 787-8 (although sometimes a 9 series substitutes) at BRS each summer for long-haul transatlantic routes as well as short-haul routes.

The LDA at LBA and BRS don't seem wildly different although the runway alignment at BRS is east-west. BRS has Cat3b on 27 but not on 09 because of the topography on approach. As fas as I know the TUI 787s utilise the Cat3b on 27.

What would be the difference at the two airports in this regard?

TUI 787-8s can reach Florida from BRS non-stop and usually to Mexico (Cancun) as well but with Cancun there are a handful of occasions each year when the outbound flight has to take on fuel (either at MAN or EMA) after departing BRS because of adverse en-route weather.

actually i take that back what i said about getting the thing built first as it makes sense as of right now to start putting the feelers out to potential airlines ready for when the thing is built, as i put it! i agree with many on here that easyjet is the one to try get into LBA for a number of reasons, they have many out of the box and biz routes, no easyjet ops east of the pennines, sorry liverpool but i feel their days are numbered there due to MAN so perhaps have a fresh new start at leeds and finally ryanair tend to blow hot and cold at LBA so i dont feel they would be a threat.

Regards any B787 or widebody operator using LBA like ive stated before (ive been told this myself by others) the airport has got to get them touchdown points back esp runway 32, once done other than the weather we sometimes get at LBA it solves alot of probs, costly i know but whats that saying, you have to spend to....! now is the time. saying that whenever ive seen a widebody at LBA, for example when we had the britannia B767 based here the thing always used to takeoff and land much easier than most of the B737s we norm get! bigger plane, bigger engines!

As for TUI like WH states a 1 pos 2 B737 base i feel would be their limit.

I agree totally. There should be no "main subject debate" on this forum. Everyone here is pro airport. The support group should be putting their opinion to the local communities and media instead of debating amongst themselves

I know I shouldn't sware on here but they can go F--K themselves for all I care, Good look in them raising £30,000 and trying to win a case reversing Leeds City Council decision. I'm 100% certain both the legal teams at Leeds-Bradford Airport and Leeds City Council will be ready to take this fight on, as was said in the plans panel meeting by the chief planning officers the applications legal case is concrete.

Believe it or not we have done @twevsmiff, I have personally been in direct contact with the said reporter Joe Cooper as he's been asking us for comments, its the very reason why we issued a press release immediately after the decision was decided late Thursday night and another was issued yesterday afternoon thanking those whom have supported us and LBA. We've have also had opportunity to offer comments to "Leeds Live", Yorkshire Post & Heart Yorkshire/Global Radio along with other media outlets as requested this past week.
But as we've seen throughout this whole planning process, the local press seem to go with anything the anti airport brigade put out, hence this article today. Going to leave it at that as me blood pressure is boiling point right now!

Cannot for the life of me remember the councillor who said it but he was a lawyer for 25 years and he stated pretty much if this goes to court they will loose. He also said they should be careful at what they are saying on the meeting as lawyers would very much hang up on their every word in court and he of all people should know as he is a lawyer himself. I think this is the time he was having, a sly pop, at Walsworth. The hippy who wants all air travel banned.

Im on many of the local facebook groups, due to lockdown for the past few days ive spent many hrs posting positive comments about LBAs plans and also spent many hrs explaining the plans to the public in more detail, ive found the vast majority are for the development.
