Leeds Bradford: Airport Road, Rail & Access Issues

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
Why is it that every time I use the A1 it is absolutely rammed with airport users. Sorry Transdev but you are in cloud cuckoo land if you think the buses aren't busy
The rush hour ones from Leeds are busy as well. Was stood up all the way home tonight. A first officer got on just before the viaduct, stood by me looking at the weather map over Europe. Boeing lanyard so wasn't sure if jet2 or Ryanair, followed by an aircraft handling detailing agent. Lots already on or got on with cases.

Something tells me these more these cuts by Transdev than meets the eye.

All 3 flyer buses routes receive some form of funding from Metro & Leeds Bradford Airport. As far as I understand Transdev were awarded the last contract as they were the only bidder.

A1 is partly funded (Off Peak only)
A2 & A3 routes are fully trendered.

Now I wonder if the contract/Franchise is up renewal?

New forthcoming Transdev Flyer Buses timetables (from September service changes) are now showing on the metro website.

*The existing timetable will show as default, you've got to click on the forthcoming tab to see the new timetable.

A1 = Leeds - Kirkstall - Horsforth - Airport

A2 = Bradford - Airport - Harrogate

A3 = Bradford - Airport - Otley

The A2 is beyond the Leeds boundary after Poole in Wharfedale, so North Yorkshire will be responsible from there to Harrogate for subsidies. So if North Yorkshire aren't playing ball that will be probably be the reason why the later journeys will terminate at the Airport.

It may well have been Harrogate Council previously if there was any subsidy other than by LBA. Harrogate Council no longer exist and North Yorkshire Council may take a different view.

I had a wander down to Horsforth yesterday and I was actually quite impressed with the changes being made to the road there. I expect the dualling wont go far enough towards the East but it's a significant improvement.

It looks decent what they have done but it wont make any difference whatsoever simply due to the fact that before the road was widened drivers treated it like 2 lanes anyway which most the time is gridlocked, plus the horsforth roundabout is a nightmare!

However that was unofficial. With no flow. No 2 lanes that could fit 2 lanes of traffic. I agree it’ll still be a nightmare but hopefully will improve. It’s all about, for me, making traffic flow.

The hill needs to be widened to two lanes both ways now. Or at least for part.

Yesterday I emailed our esteemed WY Mayor to attempt to ascertain the latest situation in respect of the proposed LBA Parkway station. I will of course, divulge any response I may receive, assuming Brabin has the intelligence to access emails.
Doubt you will get anything more than a generic response.

Ha, good luck with that, she never got involved with issues on the buses

It's easy enough to get her attention. You just have to entitle your email 'Cycle Lanes', 'Walking to save the planet' or 'West Yorkshire Bus Services' and she's guaranteed to at least open it. Or get her deputy to do it for her.

If the word Airport appears then I suspect her level of interest might diminish. After all, she can't generate any praise for herself at LBA can she? She isn't in control.

Doubt you will get anything more than a generic response.
If that.

There are certain proactive Mayors like Andy Burnham across the Pennines beating the drum for their area, who seem to have a direct line to Westminster and the goodies being handed out, then there’s Tracy Brabin who is continuing the tradition of West Yorkshire being ignored.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
