Leeds Bradford: EasyJet Flights, New Routes & Schedule Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
Yes, its becoming increasingly common, and it fine until something goes wrong. There are plenty of accident reports identifying better outcomes if the full length of the runway had been used.
The crucial point here is the declared distance from the take off point was within the published limitations of the aircraft to perform a safe departure with or without the loss of power.

basically what the ipad performance tool spits out if you calculate your takeoff performance from the intersection.

also it is less about losing an engine tbh as if you lost one just before you rotate you would be stopping anyway. if you lose it as you are taking off and continue, the amount of runway you used doesn't really factor in to how that flight proceeds - you would be in no better or worse position if you had used 1000m or 3000m to take off.

as noted U2 are not the only ones to take off from the intersections on short flights using the A320 family so the aircraft seems perfectly capable of doing it when only having say 5/6T of fuel oboard.

As the smaller Airbuses, the Embraers and the rubber band powered ATRs with light loads of fuel are more than capable of doing this then why not? The pilots may as well take advantage of the aircraft’s performance characteristics.

Literally every flight that departs luton does not backtrack (check youtube clips) and those flights are heading off to much further afield than belfast so much heavier loads, so our easyjets to belfast would certainly have plenty of runway available and even if it had to abort.

As reported on the dried fruit forum, easyJet are starting to retire their A319s at quite a pace now. As our BFS service is predominantly 319s I just wondered if anyone had any knowledge on Easyjets plans for this service once they are all gone (not sure of the timeline for that though). Perhaps down to 2 a week on 320s or are we at risk of losing it altogether? How well is it currently performing?

If I remember correctly most easyJet LBA flights during the winter 2023/24 season are booked to be operated by A320 as they remove the A319 from the Belfast Int'l base.

All their A319’s are due to be phased out within the next four years, on order as replacements are A320/321 Neos. Apparently they’re going so the airline can increase the number of seats by using larger aircraft at slot restrained airports.

Flew to Nice from Luton in September (as we had overnighted with relatives near the airport) - took off from the intersection and noticed a marker board '1771 metres' with an arrow in direction of take off.

As promised..

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
