Discussions relating to Liverpool Airport
First Faro service operating today

Twitter feed on same flight.

Off they head in search of some Mediterranean sunshine - the first passengers board flight FR4031 to Faro this morning. Great to see passengers jet off from Liverpool on holiday once again.

Those timings for Liverpool passengers are perfect for a weekend break.

In Rome by lunchtime on the Friday, leaving Rome on the Monday in the evening. Perfect.

Its not often I wouldn't welcome a new route, except when its a duplication of one already announced. Which this it unfortunately.

easyJet?

Rome will have, within the Pennie region:

LPL - easyJet, Ryanair
MAN - Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair
LBA - Jet2

I forget about the purple/pink operator. Thanks for your information.

I guess the next question is - who would you rather have? Reliable airline that's been with the airport for a few decades or new kid on the block?

Even though Wizz have already announced plans to fly to FCO. It’s good to see FR offering more choices with them from LPL. At the end of the day people have some good choices of who they want to fly with. And two airlines on the same route is welcome.

It’s the same with Alicante. You have two airlines that operate that route. Easyjet and Ryanair which seem to do ok (before the pandemic) and at one point you had 3 airlines on the same route (Blueair) so let’s hope it’s the case with Rome and is healthy competition for both carriers.

Id go for Wizz, who have also been operating from LPL for years. Ryanair is clearly a protectionist move to intimidate Wizz, however Ryanair and indeed Easyjet have a nasty habit of suddenly reducing , moving or cutting routes once they have seen off any competition. Easyjet did it to KLM and Ryanair did it to Aer Lingus. I can understand why they want to protect their patch, but for the airport and the public at large they are stifling growth and choice.

It could be over-kill however, particularly now. There are plenty of unserved routes which are crying out for an airline to return to, Easyjet are not going to continue with long served Paris and Berlin for example. I would rather see that personally.

Fair enough. I agree but these routes you say have to work. If they are not popular enough then airlines won’t operate there as they don’t get much money on the route. Especially after the pandemic airlines need bums on seats and routes to be popular to earn money to make up for the large losses made over the last year. Ryanair are clearly happy with Rome and confident the route will do good. Let’s hope in future other routes which are not served by other airlines are added.

I don't know what the demand is to Rome, let's hope they think its sufficient for two, they aren't operating the same days so that helps. Milan is a popular dropped Ryanair route, which could do with returning, same for Venice again popular but dropped by Easyjet. I'm surprised Ryanair haven't filled in the Lisbon gap left by Easyjet, again well used. They go to Porto and Faro, so would make sense.

Dublin and Knock routes about to return. ( supplied via Twitter )

Ryanair flights to Dublin from Liverpool recommence on 16 June with five weekly departures, whilst Liverpool to Knock resumes on 18 June with three weekly departures.

Ryanair started Malta flights earlier, began yesterday morning, then Tuesdays and Saturdays. EasyJet also on same route.

Travelling at 17.05 today, getting to the airport a bit earlier than I would normally in case covid procedures delay things a bit. I normally arrive 90 mins before which is fine at Liverpool.

So now through security but id advise anyone to give more time than they would normally, documentation checks are adding time.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
