Birmingham: Air India Flights, New Routes & Schedule Updates

Quite possibly.

The only thing I'd say is their 773's might be a little too premium heavy, two 787 flights on certain days of the week could be a better option. It could also depend on if we still have two Emirates flights next year or three 🙂

Air India is planning to convert their last five Dreamliner orders to the -900 series. I imagine they'll probably be used on the longer runs such as SYD and MEL but you never know, we may see the odd one pass through BHX at busy times.

AI plans to convert the last five Dreamliners into 787-9, which have a longer range and more seating capacity...

Well its finally here, the day that we see Air India EVERY DAY.

A Christmas Gift for British Indians

22 December 2014

Birmingham Airport and Air India have celebrated the start of daily flights between Birmingham, Delhi and Amritsar after the carrier took delivery of its 18th Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliner’.

By increasing services from four to seven, Air India now offers more than 3,500 seats on the route each week, with additional services operating on Sundays, Fridays and Saturdays. This growth comes just 16 months after launching the Birmingham route, which has carried around 110,000 passengers.

Speaking at the launch of the new schedule, William Pearson, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Development Director, said, “The start of this new schedule by Air India means that Midlanders now have even more choice and direct access to India from Birmingham and we are very thankful to Air India for recognising the huge demand in Birmingham’s catchment from business and leisure travellers.”

The West Midlands receives more foreign direct investment from India than any other region outside of London and Birmingham’s VFR market grew by 71% in 2013, now attracting more visitors from India than any English city other than London.

Vishwanath Panyam, Air India’s Astt. General Manager, added, “There is a vast market in the Midlands region, which is home more than 200,000 British-Indian people who visit India to visit friends and relatives as well as many Indian owned businesses. Air India is therefore pleased to be able to offer more capacity and connectivity to this market across the whole of India on the comfortable, quiet and state of the art Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft.”
The new programme is on sale now with attractive fares, through http://www.airindia.com or via travel agents.
Flights arrive from Amritsar and Delhi at 1700 daily and depart from Birmingham for the return leg at 2030 each evening.

The Dreamliner operates a 256 seat cabin, consisting of 18 business class and 238 economy seats.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner, and is designed to provide ‘invisible comfort’. The cabin air pressure is the equivalent of 6,000 feet altitude – 2,000 feet lower than other aircraft. This improves oxygen absorption into the blood, reducing in-flight headaches, dizziness and fatigue. Passengers also enjoy better air humidity, to arrive at their destination refreshed.

The B787 has been designed to be 20% more fuel efficient than the B767 it is to replace.

Air India have made a move, Turkish have made a move, we just need Emirates now.

We now have a "Threesome" of shakers and movers.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS :good:

We had two Air India B787 Dreamliners stop over last night. VT-ANS night stopped due to the runway closure and departed just after 6am this morning whilst VT-ANE, which was on Thursdays flight, is still in.

Air India is only 1 hour 30 mins late today, alot better than most days recently and everyone from the middle east is delayed, Turkmenistan is the most delayed today, around 4 hours, Emirates is delayed about 1 hour, PIA slightly delayed.

Only 55 mins late tonight 🙂

Incidentally VT-ANE that spent the day parked up was because the aircraft went tech.

No, no, sorry! Nothing to do with a battery fire - well nothing was reported. It was supposed to be a throw-away, humorous (?!) comment and not meant to be an exercise in pathos. Apologies again.

Sorry, my fault, I totally missed it. When in the written word it's hard to get the context sometimes, very good though 😀

Looks as though VT-ANI will be back in the air within 10 days as the parts have arrived.

The national carrier, which is the third largest operator of Dreamliners in the world, had ordered spares for the parts that were used in the other aircraft, which have been delivered. The aircraft is now awaiting approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to take to the skies again. Air India received its first Dreamliner in September 2012 and currently has 18 of them in its fleet. There have been multiple issues such as windshield cracks, engine failures and gear issues with the aircraft ever since they were delivered.

"The problems with Dreamliners have been a lot and the delivery of spares could not have been possible as and when required. An aircraft (VT-ANI) was grounded and about 300 spare parts of this particular aircraft were used to keep the other Dreamliners in our fleet running. The spares have come now and we have fitted them. The aircraft should be back to flying in another 10 days,"

Nice to see Air India still going strong (and getting stronger seemingly) - well, compared to the last time I posted here. 😀

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
