SSP partners with Bottega to bring new Prosecco Bar to Birmingham Airport

SSP UK, a leading operator of food and drink concessions in travel locations, has partnered with Italian drinks brand Bottega to open a new Bottega Prosecco Bar at Birmingham Airport.

The new outlet brings the atmosphere and ambiance of a typical Venetian Bacaro bar to the international traveller.

Deeply rooted in the Italian tradition of fine wine and food, Bottega Prosecco Bar offers a broad selection of wines, along with traditional finger food and specialties, that can be enjoyed all day in a relaxed environment. The bar at Birmingham features a selection of dishes popular with airport passengers, given an Italian twist. It also features an Italian breakfast menu to meet the needs of travellers at all times of the day.

Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK & Ireland, added, ““We are delighted to be working with Bottega, which is a wonderful premium brand and a great addition to our portfolio. This is definitely prosecco’s time, and this new bar is completely on trend. We are certain that it will be a fantastic addition for all our customers at Birmingham Airport.”

Sandro Bottega, owner and managing director of Bottega, adds: “This concept, which aims to promote and enhance the reputation of our country in the enological and gastronomic fields, reflects the core values of Bottega SpA. At Bottega we advocate the importance of a healthy lifestyle, based on varied and unsophisticated food, which is innate in the Mediterranean diet. We also believe in the pairing of food and drink, which is why we have created our own food and wine combinations. I am particularly delighted to partner withSSP, whose knowledge and experience in the airport market and knowledge of the travelling consumer will I’m sure help to ensure the success of this new venture.”

Richard Gill, Acting Commercial Director of Birmingham Airport said: “We are delighted to have worked with the SSP and Bottega teams to open the first Bottega Prosecco Bar in a UK airport. This brings something very different to the choice of food and beverage within the airport and will further ensure our passengers have a great experience whilst travelling through Birmingham Airport.”

The bar is the eleventh Bottega has opened worldwide. The Bottega Prosecco Bar made its debut on-board the Viking Line “Cinderella” cruise ship in 2014 and Bottega has since opened variations of the popular concept in locations around the globe including the Seychelles, Abu Dhabi and Milan.

No1 lounge is to open a second facility on the International pier, located between the Emirates lounge and the gates.
As I understand it this lounge will be aimed exclusively towards the Business/VIP passengers.
I will keep you updated as more details are revealed.

No 1 Lounges bringing Clubrooms to Birmingham International

The No 1 Lounge at Birmingham International suffers, along with its sister lounges at Gatwick and Heathrow T3, with capacity problems. This is especially acute in the mornings, when Priority Pass holders are at risk of being turned away if they have not paid the £5 reservation fee (you can reserve spots here).

The good news is that No 1 is bringing its Clubrooms product to Birmingham. A new lounge is currently under construction opposite Gate 54, next to the Emirates lounge.

I took a look at the Gatwick North Clubrooms here. At Gatwick South, the lounge has table service and is arranged in a more restaurant-like style. Instead of one large open space it is made up of a number of small rooms, with individual airlines – or private individuals if they wish – able to reserve a particular space. Gatwick North was done differently and looks more like a standard lounge, done out to a plusher standard than a standard No 1 Lounge.

There is no opening date, and indeed there is no mention on the No 1 Lounges website that the lounge is even on the way – but it is.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
