MON16PM from Barcelona just gone onto Stand 19.

Reminds me of when Capital went under, watching as all the Sheds came back in during the afternoon and got shoved into what was Tristar corner before the news broke.

So far Check-in is open as normal this moring. Monarch using desk A10-A13 for the 06:15, MON1260 to Dalaman & 07:30, ZB1276 to Naples.

Monarch check-in desks all starting to open as normal at LBA, MAN, LTN, BHX & LGW. Seems 2+ LGW flights have been allocated gates with boarding now taking place.
The delayed IBZ-MAN flight is now also in the air as well...

MON1260 to Dalaman has gate allocated and passengers boarding.

By all accounts TV crews have rolled up at MAN this moring where all the Monarch based aircraft have been parked remotely overnight.

The following Statement has been made by Monarch spokesman this moring.

A spokesman for Monarch said: "Over the weekend, there has been negative speculation about Monarch's financial health. Our flights are operating as normal, carrying Monarch passengers as scheduled. To weather tougher market conditions and to fund its ongoing growth, Monarch expects to announce a significant investment from its stakeholders in the coming days

This is such a peculiar situation. It sounds very much like there has been a rescue package overnight - unless the intense speculation had forced airports to take action. Let's hope so. It would be absolutely ridiculous for a solvent, profit making company to be wound up. The speculation regards the renewal of Monarch's ATOL licence which is a not insignificant amount of money and the preparedness of Greybull to pour further money into the airline to pay for such things. After all, they are trying to get rid so don't want to lose another £5m. It just seems so ludicrous to me that they would be happier for the airline to stop operating than put in that investment. Having said that, I refer again to their track record. The good news is that passengers from LBA continue to have these services and, apparently, good competition on routes helping to keep ticket prices down. The bad news is that until Monarch/Greybull release a statement that guarantees their future, this will badly affect bookings.

Seen as people have been asking here is a full official statement released by Monarch Airlines this moring on its website and via social media.

Response to speculation about Monarch

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Over the weekend, there has been negative speculation about Monarch’s financial health.

Monarch is trading well and is expected to achieve an EBITDA of over £40m at the end of this financial year (October 2016). This is despite a difficult period for the holiday industry due to terrorist incidents, Brexit and the resulting devaluation of sterling.

Our flights and holidays are operating as normal, carrying Monarch customers as scheduled.

To weather tougher market conditions and to fund its ongoing growth, Monarch expects to announce a significant investment from its stakeholders in the coming days.

Greybull Capital may have not seen it that way. There aim is to sell Monarch and if that is not feasible then shutting it down and selling it's assets to recoup their investment would to them be the next best option. Airlines require constant capital to be pumped into them and Greybull would not want to keep pumping the money in. Hopefully now a buyer/investor has been found Greybull can get there money and someone can take Monarch forward and hopefully expand the airline again!

I believe the last line of the statement is the key ! Some capital injection was required maybe by the Caa to resolve an issue just like my previous employer Dan-Air. I am delighted they have continued and hope they can find a way to get customers to book with them without worrying if the flights will operate. The staff deserve better when they have already taken pay cuts to keep the airline flying.

I'm doing my bit, 3 flights booked for the beginning of 2017.

I fly with Monarch next week and obvioulsy the 1st is the key date as there ATOL licence and funds become due.
I cant see anyone wanting to pump millions in as they require. Have put my ATOL certificate for the flight in my paper work. Just need to get to Malaga, not worried about returning.
It looks as if Easyjet is walking away from buying Thompson Fly, anxious times.

Is this the report that easyJet was interested in acquiring a stake in TUIfly in order to secure EU traffic rights post BREXIT?

The easyJet CEO said recently that her airline was in advanced talks over acquiring another air operator's certificate (presumably one in a EU country, hence the TUIfly story) to go with its UK and Swiss AOCs.

Taking over any German company is not an easy task !!! I would be very surprised to see this happen.

I had no idea easyjet were even interested in buying Thomson.

From what i've read there just trying to buy a percentage of the company to get a EU AOC for their internal EU flights.
On another forum someone suggested they'd be better off buying Volotea.

Yes it is. They were apparently looking to buy a stake in the TUIFly to get the AOC.

Interesting thread on Airliners.net

Seems the CAA have chartered in 2 747's and an A330 from UNITED and Air Transat respectively.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
