Leeds Bradford: Ryanair Flights, New Routes & Base Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
It looks like Ryanair are about to start loading up the Leeds/Bradford - Porto route for summer 2024 as a new Tuesday service has appeared from March 26th which fits into LBA based aircraft 3 (Boeing 737-800) flying programme as follows.

Based Aircraft 3
FR3575 = LBA 06:30 – ZAD 10:05 / FR3576 = ZAD 10:30 – LBA 12:15
FR0157 = LBA 13:05 – DUB 14:05 / FR0156 = DUB 14:30 – LBA 15:25
FR2399 = LBA 15:50 - OPO 18:25 / FR2400 = OPO 18:50 - LBA 21:25

I am not going to repeat myself over my current Wizz views/opinions but it doesn't surprise me one bit that FR are perhaps gunning for Wizz. They tend to spot weaknesses in the opposition and go for the jugular. I do also hope Wizz don't up sticks as a result but..............

I just bet Wizz wish they had the aircraft to retaliate. Ultimately that is the weakness that FR are trying to exploit by realising there is no, or at least little, chance of retaliatory route duplication

Mind you it could also suggest the OTP loads/yield are as good as has been suggested, so perhaps plenty of room for the two of them. VNO anyone?

I am minded to think that Bucharest is Wizz Airs best performing route out of LBA and Ryanair (and LBA management) feel there is room for expansion. Wizz are not in a position to do so. Not yet anyway.

Ryanair are like a predator airline - spotting a weakness and moving in for the kill, but I don't think they will see off Wizz on that route.

Competition is good. As long as the business is there to keep both happy.

Wizz and Ryanair already compete on other routes. Its good to see OTP being expanded (shame FR didn't fly it before Wizz moved over) can see room for both though and good they're on separate days. Kaunas, Vilnius, Iasi Wizz could give a good go.

I think Ryanair and Wizz also supply different markets

Ryanair typically an airline used by UK and European customers, Wizz more heavily used by European but not so much UK customers.

Maybe the optimist in me but I suspect they might complement each other, especially given they will operate on different days

It’s an attack on Wizz and that’s about it. They see the route is strong for them so are using their muscles to hurt the Wizz bottom line while they are struggling with the PW engine issues.

Shame FR are not as proactive at seeing the large gaps at LBA: LIS, MAD, BER, MXP/BGY, OSL, HAM, CRL.

I’m sure quite a few of these could work - hopefully the lager terminal will also bring future destinations.

Back when I kept a proper eye on the loads for both Ryanair and Wizz Air Bucharest was by far the best Wizz route, nothing came close to it

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
