Fly BMI

A crj-200 of Backbone aviation has operated a Bmir flight to bologna today , is this a normal schedule ? Are bmir still suffering from lack of aircraft ? I see on another forum they have leased an emb. To Loganair , surely that will make things even worse ?
Bologna is not a normal scheduled flight from BRS. Presumably it's a one-off for some specific purpose.

It's been well documented of course that bmir has been struggling for aircraft at times in recent months with all sorts of aircraft being leased from other airlines either on the day or for several weeks as was the case with CityJet's Sukhoi 100s.

Loganair is perhaps understandable as both it and bmir have the same owners, Airline Investments Limited (AIL). bmir needs to get its act together though because it is rapidly acquiring a reputation for unreliability in the sense that it has been cancelling a disproportionate number of flights in recent months.

Given its eye-watering fares for much of the time passengers at least expect that a flight will operate.

Todays Munich evening flight cancelled
And this afternoon's Paris Cdg operated by an ATR 42-300 of the Lithuanian airline, DOT LT (formerly Danu Oro Transportas)* whose parent is Danish Air Transport.

Arrival back at BRS was scheduled for 1730 - the flight landed at 1857.

* My knowledge of the Lithuanian aviation scene in not that good - I looked up the details of this airline. I was working in the garden this evening and saw an ATR 42 going in to BRS and wondered what it was.

FR24 shows that the aircraft has been operating the Highlands and Islands routes for at least the past week for Loganair (same owner as bmir) under the Flybe franchise that is to end next month. The aircraft flew from Edinburgh at lunchtime to operate the BRS-CDG-BRS.

The DOT LT ATR 42-300 seems to have been retained at BRS as it operated both CDG rotations today. At the same time bmir operates Inverness-Dublin for Loganair using a bmir E145, or did today anyway according to a poster on another website.

Clearly those rumoured additions to the fleet can't come soon enough, although one would imagine that as a business-focussed airline, BM would see load factors reduce in the school holiday period.

Strange because the 1815 outbound left BRS for HAM according to the airport's website. FR24 shows it departing BRS at 1925 (70 minutes late) and arriving HAM 2142 local (52 minutes late). Aircraft was one of bmir's own: E145, G-RJXD.

Both the airport's website and FR24 showing the inbound cancelled. Presumably something untoward at HAM. Maybe a tech issue or crew problem.

It did land, i think, around 23:30. Thats what the arrivals board showed. However BRS website showed as cancelled. Strangely the BRS arrivalsboard showed gran canaria as arrival from Thomson last night. It should be LPA. Some newbies playing with equipment i think.

Gran Canaria = LPA
The airports full name is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport (LPA)

I am aware of that, just never seen Gran Canaria written in BRS arrivals board in the airport. It has always been Las Palmas.

It was late due to thunderstorms and bad weather over Europe. A lot of airlines were affected by the weather.

Thanks, big g.

I wonder why the BRS website showed the HAM-BRS sector as cancelled. Seems an odd thing to do - confusing for anyone expecting someone on the flight.

I've noticed before that the BRS website arrivals and departures pages are not always accurate. I can think of no excuse for this happening. It might also be the case with other airports too for all I know.

Airliner world this month has a feature on BMI Regional.. relatively informative although nothing new in terms of plans that haven't been discussed on here. It mentions Bristol as it's busiest base and it's reasons for this and a bit on fleet renewal, again nothing more revealing than has been debated on this thread. It did state that the CEO liked the current jets and feels they offer more comfort that an A320 / 737 which would be competitors jets on their types of routes. Interesting train of thought..

I suppose he would say that (about the comfort of his aircraft), to plagiarise a well-known comment by a witness in a high-profile 1960s criminal trial.

The airline really needs to get its act together regarding reliability (too many cancellations and delays).

Totally agree. Not very good of late at all..

Some very angry debate about BMI performance on twitter last night. One comment asks Bristol Airpirt to ban them as they are affecting reputation of the airport. Another tweet says ' How can they cancel a flight mid air'?

Did this happen. Did they take off and then turn around?

According to FR24 the 17.25 DUS departed at 18.20 got as far as Reading and turned around back to BRS where it spent some time in the hold before landing.

Their product has certainly taken a hit as of late, as has their OTP rating. BMIr need to tread carefully, because otherwise they could be losing PAX to BE at CWL.

Safety is paramount though so if my flight got turned around mid-air for safety concerns then i'd much rather that than taking an undue risk just to get to my destination, where that aircraft would have likely gone tech anyway.

It's a great shame that things seem to have gone so badly wrong. In its first year away from the Lufthansa Group it received rave reviews on Skytrax (a site where negative views about airlines and airports invariably outweigh positive ones) with the first 12 reviews giving nine 10/10 and three 9/10 which is really quite unusual. Since then 1/10 to 3/10 is much more common.

The BRS routes, invariably expensive and sometimes eye-wateringly so, have LH code shares on two (FRA and MUC) with two others being almost in-house airlines: HAM for Airbus and Imperial and MXP for Leonardo. CDG competes with easyJet and ABZ has fallen away in recent years as many routes have at ABZ following the oil industry rundown there. DUS will do well to survive when Ryanair begins its 4 x weekly Cologne service in November.

So the time might have arrived when bmir will be looking at the future of its BRS operation. By that I don't mean pulling out but rather refining it to meet the various challenges both within and without the airline.

Even with FRA and MUC on a LH code share I read that some local business people continue to use LH at LHR and others no doubt will be looking there if bmir doesn't get its act together.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
