The CEO of Beijing airport has said today that routes to Atlanta, Dublin and Manchester are on the way. It's the first time this sort of quote has come from the Chinese end of a potential route, who are usually quite coy at what they say.

One to watch!

Judging by a social media conversation between manniashraf and Air China, it looks like it might be Air China with 777s? Apparently Air China are having negotiations with Manchester, so, I would place a bet on them.

Thomson Airways will offer cruise charters to Dubai from Manchester.

They will also offer BHX/CWL/NCL/LGW too.

Media reports are suggesting that when the Chinese president Mr Xi visits Manchester next Friday, he is attending an event at Manchester Airport with David Cameron. Amongst other things, a new direct route to mainland China will finally be announced after years of negotiations.

Financial times now have a direct quote saying President Xi is announcing a new Beijing link to Manchester on Friday.

Ive read that the announcement at the airport might not be an Chinese Carrier,it might be TCX starting a link with china.Great news anyway whoever is operating the flights :good:

It's not TCX, it's a Chinese carrier.

It will be a 4 weekly A330 from 1st February.

Thanks user001,we will all have to wait till end of next week for the announcement. But all good news whichever airline is operating the flights. :good:

Apparently Egyptair will be ceasing operations to Cairo again with the last flight being on October 24 (this Saturday).

They've been in and out of Manchester a few times it seems :s_dunno

They are back again next May. Issues with the bilateral so, that keep getting refused and then later accepted. It's a messy scenario.

An interview with Charlie Cornish on the Hainan flights and for future routes.

Cornish said in an interview that he aims to encourage Hainan to offer flights to Shanghai which, like Beijing, is visited by about 100,000 people a year from Manchester’s catchment area. The airport is also targeting services to Bangkok and Los Angeles or San Francisco, and aims to attract further flights by Persian Gulf carriers, he said.

Information gained from another forum

Hopefully discussions between Manchester airport and Hainan regarding additional flights to Shangai will come to fruition. For too long the North of England has had to rely on so many flights from the South East.

Also, it's hard to believe there isn't already flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco from Manchester.

There are flights to Los Angeles from Manchester, it was a bit of a faux pas by Cornish.

Thomas Cook serve MAN-LAX twice weekly from May 1st.

In terms of Hainan, Chen Feng, CEO has gone on record to say MAN-PEK is likely to be daily not long after operations commence.

Of course, I'd forgotten about the TCX flight to LAX. It the Thomas Cook flight to LAX operating as a scheduled service though rather than a charter?

All Thomas Cook long haul from Manchester is now considered scheduled, in line with the Condor model.

Most TCX long haul now also carries a Condor code and bookable on Condor website.

Really he must know about TCX flights, maybe they are after an American airline to operate a flight to SFO and.LAX.The thing that interested me in the interview was Bangkok and a Persian Gulf carrier. :s_cool

So, after a little tinkering on the iPad, it seems Manchester should comfortably reach the 25m passenger milestone next summer.

There are 22 new routes in 2016, some new winter routes heading into the summer and some decent increases on other routes.

The 22 new routes are:

Boston, Kavala and Los Angeles with Thomas Cook
Islamabad with Shaheen Air
Aruba, Dubai and Keflavik with Thomson
Beijing with Hainan
Rome and Alicante with Vueling
Naples, Kraków and Girona with Jet2
Brindisi, Bratislava, Malta, Limoges and Carcassone with Ryanair
Palma with Small Planet and Air Europa
Rotterdam with Flybe.

Rumours or Waterford with VLM, Podgorcia with Montenegro Airlines, 6 new routes with Easyjet, 1-2 new routes with Delta/Virgin and more expansion from Thomas Cook and Thomson.

Increases on routes are Athens, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Hannover, Munich, Prague, Barcelona, Faro, Alicante, Palma, Valencia, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Edinburgh, Keflavik, Milan, Basle, New York, Orlando, Las Vegas , Islamabad, Dubai and more.

Rumoured expansion includes 4 extra flights from Cathay Pacific, 3 extra flights from Saudia and Virgin Atlantic.

New routes in winter heading through to summer are Austrian and Easyjet to Vienna and Ryanair to Bremen.

New cargo includes Saudia to Taif, Air Bridge to various points, Lufthansa from Los Angeles and DHL to Leipzig.

Not a bad little list!

I thought the DHL was supposed to have started by now but haven't seen any reports to say it has. Do you know what is happening.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
