Eurowings

well a great route to see back into BHX and another capital city parked off...

On Eurowings website, it states 'operated by AirBerlin' so is this going to be one of the aircraft (AB) obtained by the LH group or Niki?

Still can't find this on the eurowings website, just shows me routes via Düsseldorf

I think it is temperamental. Searching for BHX-Vienna returns no results, however searching BHX-Austria comes up with the flights. I think they are still working on their S schedule.

Interestingly, these are being markets on the Eurowing website as summer seasonal routes. For all but BHX that makes sense as many are coastal med locations. Hopefully BHX has a good chance of being made year round?!

Great to have Vienna back anyway.

Noticed BHX-HAM is now just 3 weekly next summer (Mon/Fri/Sun). Was this always the case as could have sworn it was 6 weekly?

More details on Eurowings operations next summer...

According to the Lufthansa press release the aircraft will be in Eurowings livery but flown and ground handled by AirBerlin crew:

Lufthansa signs letter of intent on wet-lease collaboration between Eurowings and Air Berlin – Lufthansa Group

HAM was 6 weekly in S16 but was reduced to 3 for winter. It goes up to 4 weekly for a brief period in the spring (presumably Easter) with a Wednesday flight added but back to 3 weekly after that 🙁

Introducing competition has worked wonders on several routes of late but the only potential I can see is Kenny Jacobs' remark at the start of S16 about Ryanair looking to expand BHX-Germany. Maybe there will be something for W17/18 although I'm not holding my breath.

With thanks to Daza for posting this elsewhere 🙂

Vienna Set to Take Off from Birmingham This Summer

Birmingham Airport and German low-cost carrier, Eurowings, will be launching a brand new service to Vienna from the 26th March.

The six times weekly operation to Austria’s capital city is in addition to Eurowings’ current programme to Dusseldorf and Hamburg.

All services are planned with an A320 aircraft configured to 180 seats. Eurowings is part of the Lufthansa Group, further strengthening its presence at Birmingham Airport.

The schedule will be as follows:

Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday: Arrive from Vienna 1845 / Depart Birmingham at 1930

Tuesday: Arrive from Vienna 1905 / Depart Birmingham at 1945

Sunday: Arrive from Vienna 1430 / Depart Birmingham at 1510

William Pearson, Aviation Director for Birmingham Airport, said: “Eurowings is an important partner of Birmingham Airport as it already serves two routes to Dusseldorf and Hamburg which are hugely important to the Midlands Engine and the region’s leisure market.

“We’re therefore very pleased that the airline will be launching a brand new route from Birmingham to Vienna this summer and I’m sure that it will be welcomed by customers looking for somewhere exciting to explore for leisure, as well as offering a convenient schedule for passengers travelling on business.”

Eurowings is headquartered in Cologne and serves a network of domestic and European destinations as well as some long-haul routes.

“We are pleased to announce a new Birmingham link to Vienna”, said Ivan Orec, Manager Network Development & Airport Relations for Eurowings. “The new route will operate six times a week from the end of March 2017, in addition to our 18 weekly services to Düsseldorf and three weekly services to Hamburg. We will continue to grow our network and to bring more passengers through Birmingham Airport".

Vienna is the largest city in Austria and the country’s cultural, economic, and political centre. It lies in the east of Austria on the Danube River and its history has been shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its Imperial palaces, contemporary buildings and museums which display works by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt as well as other artists.

Vienna is now bookable throughout the winter.

At the moment it is still 6x weekly on an A320 but there may well be changes between now and then.

Good to see it's year round though 🙂

This is great news mate, i have high hopes for this route. I know it may not have as many carriers as Madrid for example but i feel it will be a popular route.

My apologies it's actually 4x weekly (Sun, Mon, Wed and Fri), the Tue and Thurs flight is via Dusseldorf.

It's still a decent schedule for it's first winter and probably about right with it still being an A320.

Didn't see that one coming.

It's a nice little route and should hopefully be popular throughout the winter.

It's a Dec 9th start I believe?

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
