FR24 shows the Jet Time 737 arrived this morning.

It's first flight for Monarch will be Barcelona tomorrow morning.

Once again Monarch are providing the variety. Let's have them lease something big this year! In 2013 they used a EuroAtlantic 777 although that never came to BHX.

Monarch Airlines Announces Additional Routes and Frequencies for Winter 2015/16 from Birmingham

Monarch has announced additional routes and frequencies to its winter schedule for 2015/16 from Birmingham Airport; which covers flights until the end of April 2016, including the popular Easter period.

The following routes are now on sale for winter 15/16: Barcelona, Gibraltar and Majorca.

Additional frequencies to routes already on sale for winter 15/16 from Birmingham Airport include Lanzarote, Malaga, Alicante, Faro, Rome, Madeira, Fuerteventura, Grenoble, Larnaca, Gran Canaria, Sharm el Sheikh, Salzburg, Tenerife, Turin and Venice.

Marjan Schoeke, Head of Network Development for Monarch Airlines comments: “We are delighted to announce the release of additional flights and frequencies to our schedule for winter 15/16 from Birmingham Airport. These additional routes and frequencies provide our customers with an even greater choice of destinations whether that be winter sun, ski or city short breaks.”

Birmingham Airport chief executive Paul Kehoe, added: “Monarch’s decision to announce additional routes to Barcelona, Gibraltar and Majorca and increase frequencies on existing routes throughout winter 15/16 from Birmingham is great news for passengers who want to grab some winter sun or hit the slopes from their local airport.”

Additional routes? All three of these have been going for as long as I can remember. Or are they just summer only routes that have been moved to year-round?

Sounds like the usual spin. I think they announced Ryanair to Gdansk as a 'new route' when it went year round despite the fact it had been operating though the summer.

ZB908 from BHX to Dalaman was forced to divert into Sofia to offload six 'disruptive' passengers. Apparently they were ‘drinking their own alcohol’, ‘smoking in the toilets’, and ‘grabbing female staff’.

I hope Monarch bill them for the full cost of the divert :s_yes

I'd like to think they'd be banged up in an old style Eastern Bloc prison for a few weeks. It might concentrate their minds for the future.

At the very least let them find their own way back from Bulgaria. I hope the British consular authorities there give them minimal help.

At BHX today we have a proliferation of planes that are still in the old livery with the white tail. So far we have had G-OZBM, -BR, BU, and -BT.
That behaviour on the flight wasn't just stupid and unnecessary, not to mention extremely bad for the other passengers, it should've been easy to prevent--how'd they get alcohol and cigarettes on the plane? And why do bad things always seem to happen on MON's leased aircraft?

Because they were traveling outside the EU,it was perfectly legal to buy duty free alcohol and cigarettes. That is not the problem as many others on the flight would have also have bought duty free.
It was the fact that a few could not wait till they got into Dalaman before going on a 'bender'.
Neither is it the cabin crews job to police the passengers. They can refuse to serve or sell alcohol if they believe there could be a problem, but too many people in this world cannot take responsibility for their own actions.

In my opinion, Monarch need to sort out their boarding procedures as a LOCO.

Even though they sell priority boarding etc, when you get to the departure gate, there is the usual melee.

Both Ryanair & EasyJet use priority queues, with a defined queue at the departure gate and the ticket type boldly printed on the boarding card. Also, the despatching staff at the gate seem unaware of the procedures.

I tend to view MON more as a leisure carrier or LCC/leisure hybrid than a LCC probably because all their routes are traditional sun destinations and they had long haul not so long ago.
They are undergoing restructure in many areas, but I'm still not sure what sort of carrier they are meant to be 😆

Uh oh.
Well, they have been bailed out once, but the events over the next few months could be critical for BHX as I believe Monarch carries the most passengers from here.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
