:joyful:

Looks nice.

This is the plot on the opposite side of the road to Exchange Square isn't it? I wonder what the chances are of them making phase 2 higher so they don't get outdone 🙂

I read about another development in Digbeth about to be announced but SSC has been playing up for me lately and I can't find out any more info 🙁

Yes I believe its that plot. As for Exchange Square Phase 2, it had been rumoured to be the height of this one but was then scaled back to more around 35 floors. Can't personally see them increasing it again just to match this one as a tall development on this site was known about when they reduced the floor count. 35 floors is nothing to sniff at either - same height as Matchbox and 2 floors taller than Bank 2.

I too have had problems with SSC recently. Although I do have a profile I don't often log in as I rarely post on there, and was finding I wasn't able to view any new posts since I last logged in without logging in again - i.e. to see new/unread posts, you have to login. 🤔

It really is staggering to think of the number of projects either under construction or proposed for Birmingham.

Between Bank, 2one2, Matchbox, Arena Central, Paradise, 103 Colmore Row, Snowhill, Exchange Square, One Eastside, HS2 & Smithfield to name but a few, Birmingham really is going to look completely different in 10 - 15 years time!

If all of these get built and occupied, I really can see Birmingham becoming a major financial city in Europe - finance/services being a much more achievable goal for Birmingham than Film & Television IMO.

I'm in the same situation but problem solved when I log in 👍

Another project starts construction in Birmingham 👍this time in the gun quarter area of the city.

Nice little development 🙂

One for @Brum X , do we know if there are any plans to develop the Cambrian Halls of Residence site?

I walked along the canal from St Paul's to Brindleyplace and a decent development here could go a long way to creating a seamless link of leisure offerings between the two. The site is also next door to the Paradise development making it a very desirable location.

I will do some digging Ray and see what i can find out.

New 13 storey Premier Inn for Eastside.

As part of phase two I hope that it is as well as the residential tower rather than instead of? 🤔

Pretty sure the residential tower is going ahead.

The bigger question seems to be whether this 13 storey hotel will be a separate tower to the 35 storey residential tower block or combined with the residential tower to make a 48 storey mixed use tower...

Could be lots of things including 22 residential and a 13 hotel making a 35 storey tower, something they mentioned back in December 🤔

However what ever it is, looks like a planning app is almost ready to go in, oooooooooooooooooooh

Those were the days when we had similar speculation about exciting new routes at BHX, how times have changed. At least we still have our towers to keep us happy. 😉

Something of interest to Ray near to where he lives.

Lyndon place refurb to 142 apartments in Sheldon

Only yesterday I noticed a huge advert for this on the side of the building, no dates were given though.

With the new Metro line planned along Bordesley to Chelmsley Wood/Birmingham Business Park/NEC/BHX I'm hoping that East Birmingham will soon start to feel the love. It's a great area with huge potential but needs a little TLC to get things going.

Positives: Whilst Birmingham is all about the Michelin Starred restaurants it's great to see Digbeth Dining Club getting the recognition that they deserve 👍

Digbeth Dining Club
Birmingham boasts four Michelin Star restaurants, but really its gastronomic epicentre is the Digbeth Dining Club, an award-winning street food event that has been running regularly since 2012. It takes place every weekend underneath the stately Victorian railway arches of Lower Trinity Street in Digbeth, a cultural hotspot just south of the city centre. Birmingham’s independent food scene is something locals have become fiercely proud of, and here dozens of stalls showcase some of the most creative dishes the region has to offer amid a busy, hedonistic atmosphere soundtracked by live bands and DJs.

Negatives: St Paul's Square makes the cut. It's not that this area doesn't deserve the recognition as it is stunning! It's more that we currently have an oasis of calm and we don't want it overrun by tourists 👎

St Paul’s Square
Also in the Jewellery Quarter, just a short walk from the bustle of the city centre, this secluded Georgian square provides one of Birmingham’s most elegant settings. It’s surrounded on all four sides by tree-lined streets featuring wine bars, cafes and gin parlours, and has the handsome St Paul’s Church residing in the centre. The rolling lawns become a hive of gentle activity in the summer months.

I'd really like to try the Digbeth Dining club - sounds great! Also, the picture of the Balti in the lonely planet report looks so good. Takes me back to when I worked at Aston University, when Balti was really taking off. There weren't many friday nights went by that we didn't go for a Balti. We generally headed to Moseley, where we would either go to the Kababish or Royal Naweed (now sadly closed). You could take your own drinks and (surprise, surprise) there was an off licence on the same street. The Kababish even had photographs of Muhammad Ali enjoying a Balti on the premises.
Happy days!

Kevin

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
