Use this prefix for new threads for Manchester Airport
If I remember to, I will now post a monthly update of work in progress on the airfield. This comes in the format provided by NATS in the AIS (Airfield Information Service). In order to save space I have removed reference to Danger Areas. Also attached is a copy of the latest airfield layout which will assist in finding taxiway closures etc.

Thanks Scottie. Not much to discuss now re T2. Now construction completed. Can't see much happening for a good few years now

There is a NOTAM stating E9-E10 is closed until 7th August, is this for the extended dual taxiway operation? Therefore the dual taxiway will extend passed pier 2 beyond this date?

Think that's the plan. But still need to make up for remote stands lost. Wonder if dual taxiway will only be in operation at peak times and they retain remotes for night parking? Can't see cargo sheds demolition happening any time soon to make way for new remotes?

Random question but does anyone know if boots will be coming back to T3 and if so where would it be? Just for future reference for when I next fly out of T3

Seems the ‘new’ Escape lounge in T3 is actually the old Emirates lounge with a staffed bar fitted.
Furniture, carpets and ornaments all unchanged. Gobsmacked. What a great space for free with a DragonPass etc.
What a MASSIVE upgrade on the previous crappy windowless mice infested lounge!

So last month I got to experience the new Executive Lounge in T2. I was flying out for the World Cup with Virgin and this was the 2nd day in operation so very much in soft launch mode. On arrival I was directed to the Boll the private dining area that is reserved for Virgin Atlantic Upper Class passengers currently. They may open this up at a later date for a up charge. The space is very similar to an AMEX Centurion lounge or Delta One lounge. The old 1903 lounge is now part of the T2 escape lounge.

I'm using the Executive Lounge next month, quite looking forward to a little bit of calm away from the mid-afternoon chaos that is usually T2.

I believe a new T2 Aspire lounge opens on the 19th of September near the D gates and the Great Northern Market. Not clear yet if the old lounge will be re purposed or not.

Noticed over the last month or two that certain based airlines now seem to get somewhat of a priority to a certain Pier, with EasyJet using Pier 1 (A Gates) , Jet2 using Pier 2 (C Gates) and TUI using T2 Legacy pier (D Gates).

Looking at FR24 with all departures this morning until 10am:
  • For EasyJet, 27 departures: 18 of then departed from the A Gates, with 6 leaving from the B & C bus gates and 3 from T1 Pier C.
  • For Jet2, 24 departures just 1 from the A Gates, 12 from the C Gates and 3 from the D Gates, with 6 leaving from the B & C bus gates and 4 from T1 Pier C.
  • For TUI, 8 Departures (that had pax on as there was a lot positioning out) with none from either the A or C Gates, 7 from the D Gates and 1 from T1 Pier C.
Now obviously this isn't guaranteed as the results say, but it's a good indicator that something has possibly been done to structure this, which in my opinion is a positive.

I've also noticed Air France have often been using T1 stands regardless of the time of day 🙂

Interesting and yes, maybe airfield ops have now structured the allocations of stands for specific airlines. I had noticed easyJet using Pier A the majority of the time anyway.
It seems BA and EasyJet use Pier A for their domestic flights (easyJet also has the flights to/from the CTA destinations. It would be better for the BA flights and passengers more so. to be allocated a stand near to the domestic arrivals entrance.

I also noticed the Air France A220 being parked on stand 4 Pier B (T1) for all of their flights, it can’t be an A220 problem as Swiss regularly send this variant into T2 with issues, so my guess is the airline have asked to be allocated a stand closer to the runway due to the long taxi times (as per Loganair and Aer Lingus regional). This also seems the case for Luxair and Aurigny too (all ATR operated flights).

The soon they sort out taxiway Delta, the better! One way traffic into and out of T2 is far from ideal and is affecting OTP. I would not be happy if I was delayed and missed a connecting flight for example, if the delay was due to the traffic situation on the airfield because of these taxiway closures. It can be a big inconvenience and / or cost to both the passenger and airline if they have to transfer passengers onto the next available flight at their connecting airport.

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought that a dual taxiway had been constructed earlier this year, to ease congestion in/out of T2. Is the taxiway operating in dual mode, and if not what's the reason?

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
