Leeds Bradford: Airport Application To Amend Night Flying Quota Methodology

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
@White Heather you see that's what @LBAYORKIE is making us become. I am done arguing on the subject because it seems one cap has to fit all otherwise we are not fit to be LBA supporters! My time is my own for me to do with it what I see fit, not to be told by anyone. And for the record @White Heather I think you are the last person that needs to justify anything in relation to what you do for LBA and this forum so it's such a shame you felt pressured into saying it

I don't think anyone, least of all me doubts your commitment and all the effort you put in behind the scenes. Likewise for a notable couple of others in the Support Group, they will know who they are.

My comments are directed at the membership more generally, really in the hope I have misunderstood and they have, in reality been working on this and just perhaps told anyone.

I have found that posting on local facebook groups does result in people submitting support letters, and if you feel up to it you can put the nay-sayers right on the facts- but thats hard work! You are correct though, in many cases sooner (probably) or later the post will be taken down, but by then its done its job. Simply posting the link and doing nothing more is sufficient.

No one in this group should feel pressurised that they have to justify what they have and haven’t done in respect of supporting the planning application to other members. Enthusiasm and encouragement are fine but there’s a fine line between that and (unintentional) harassment.

I think that @LBAYORKIE, you need to reassess what your "pro LBA at all costs" rhetoric has on other members of this forum.
I can only speak for myself, but I am sure that there are others, that I am fed up of your constant posts basically saying the same thing. It is beginning to make me reluctant to open this thread in case it is repetitive posts from yourself.
You have a right to your opinion, but so has every one else.

I had hoped for support from the forum rather than criticism.

However I dont want to be devisive so I will 'cease and decist' as they say, on the matter of the S73.

LBA hitting back at the exaggerated claims by the teddybear lovers.

The comments in response to the above airport post beggar belief. Genuinely, one woman denying there is inbound tourism through LBA because although lovely, Yeadon isn't a tourist attraction. Another agreeing but with reference to Horsforth. Like, have they never heard of Murgatroyds?? 🤣.

Or York, the Dales, Leeds, Harrogate, Haworth, or just the whole of Yorkshire. It's like plaiting fog trying to get sense out of people who seem to live in their own little world and dismiss everything outside it.

LBA interview on Calendar this evening. Just starting. Could be interesting judging by a clip I saw earlier.

I think he volunteered the fact he moved in 13 years ago as I was yelling at the TV asking why he bought a house at the end of a runway with night flights since 1994 if he likes to sleep with the window open. I bet I wasn't the only one yelling at the TV either!

Not happy with SS suggesting a flight take off at 5am. Deliberate mistake to upset the natives?

There has been a lot of commentary on various facebook pages, The Ilkley And Wharfedale newspaper pages and the Leeds Bradford page today and it appears to be largely overhwhelming in support of the application
I know myself and White Heather have been fighting our corner and copping for a little abuse for our troubles!

Tha's reet enough theeya lad. If it in't in Leeds it in't worth visiting. Gerrem darn't local for a few pots of proper Yorkshire ale and a nice big plate of a growler and Yorkshire caviar

The Look North article on the Internet intimates that he actually moved there 30 years ago.
Still that was in 1996 - and as you say WH, 1994 was when the airport secured night flying.
So gentleman who likes sleeping with windows open moves to the end of the runway of the airport serving one of the then fastest developing cities in Europe!!
Beggars belief!

Thanks. I must admit that it was an uphill battle to bother listening to him. I tried really hard, but clearly failed. Thirteen and thirty do sound similar especially when the viewer is shouting at the telly!

Did VH say there would be an extra 10 flights per night? I must admit I thought it would be less than that, as I thought there were only about 4 spare stands.

He did, at peak time of year, but I think he meant by 2030. Not next year. As you say, there isn't anywhere to put an extra 10 based aircraft yet. Now we know why they planned for 10 new stands, and why they suspended the construction, because as things stand they will only be needed if the airport get S73 approval .

Just a thought......in a perfect world by LBA standards, where this S73 was approved, and further down the line, where would we even get 10 more based aircraft from? A couple from Jet2? Similar from Ryanair at best. That would still need 6 more and even if Easyjet came back in 2030 (the first year they indicated a capability of an LBA base) it wouldn't be a 6 aircraft base.

So where are these mystical 10 based aircraft that are going to result in extra night flights coming from?

Frankly it seems like a fantasy rather than reality to expect 10 more based aircraft.

Yes Vincent did say the would be about 10+ extra flight in the night hours . He also specifically mentioned Jet2 & Ryanair wanted to grow there LBA operations and it would allow new operators to come and base aircraft here.

So surely that would be 5x extra based aircraft with 5x early departures and 5x more overnight arrivals only for summer 27?

Yes but the early departures between 0600 and 0700 would no longer be night flights? They would be day flights.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
