Leeds Bradford: General Airport Discussion & Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
Ryanair have a lot of routes that can be utilised all year and because of there low fares they attract people as tourists too different cities. The flight from Murica or Gdańsk and many others will have Spanish and Polish onboard purely because they can get a flight for £20. I have done it personally just because of the price. Jet2CityBreaks only offer mainly 2 flights a week centred around the Weeknend for pax purposely looking for a city break. With Ryanair you find yourself in the most random places but a holidays a holiday !!!

I didn't want to post in the TUI and not sure whether it is Jet2 either so if the mods want to move me that's OK.

On Tuesday this week, Jet2 had 3 flights, today, it is 1. This will be the situation (except Xmas/New Year) until the middle of February when flights will gradually start increasing. There are many reasons for this but if your "major" airline cuts back to this level for 10 weeks then pax numbers are bound to plummet. Ryanair manage to keep a consistent number of flights each day but they have a more varied destination list. Holidaymakers in the winter are not as plentiful therefore not as many flights required.

I am not criticising Jet2 (I am one of their biggest fans) because I prefer them to cut back the number of flights when demand is less so that they remain profitable and in business.

Hopefully I will get away with this not being in the Nostalgia thread. When I first developed an interest in civil aviation, in the late 60's, the winter timetable consisted of 4 flights on Saturday and 2 flights on Sunday.

In December flights pick back up again and Ski flights begin which offer at least more than 10 extra flights a week.

Isn’t the reduction in LS flights simply because more of their routes are holiday routes which have a significantly lower demand during winter? FR in comparison seem to focus more on the non-holiday routes so demand doesn’t reduce as much.

FR seem to focus on the NON HOLIDAY routes.

Thanks, I know what I wrote, I was there when I did it.

I didn’t say FR exclusively fly non holiday routes, I said they focus more on the non holiday routes - more being relative to LS who I was comparing them to.

At this stage it’s sadly clear that rather than having a reasonable discussion on the point I raised you just seem to be intent on having an argument, so I will bow out here.

Having attended Ryanair's AGM in September, the pilots rosta fiasco shows that trying to sweat your assets is not always a wise course, especially in an industry where rightly flying hours closely controlled, yet variables such as ATC disputes, union disputes (self inflicted), weather can't be planned for.
Better as Jet2 does and completely stop a portion of your fleet, especially as ski trade effected by the weather, too much snow disrupts flights, too little snow, no customers.

Boring fact of the day is after 11:05 today, every arrival for the next 10 hours 50 minutes is from Spain.

Imagine what you all would be saying if those flights weren't there. It would be - look at that Arrivals board. What a state we are in!

At Donny they have only got Poznan, Jersey, Riga, Cluj, Bucharest and Amsterdam. Exciting or what? I know which programme I prefer. We are doing okay when compared with them. At least places people want to visit.

Can I go back to being negative now please?

Good news yesterday for those planning a flight/holiday to europe after the 29th March.
The e.u. published their plans for temporary rules in the event of no deal situation.
No cliff edge, flights and air worthiness licences will continue as usual until the 31st December, after that the rules on ownership will come in to place.
U.k. owned companies will in 2020 only be able to fly u.k. to e.u. and return, Jet2 spanish bases look an issue.
Virgin, Ryanair etc have to decide who ownes them and present Virgin 51% european owned, Branson must move his 20% from europe (u.k. ) to the states to make it an American airline.
I am a Ryanair shareholder and at the last AGM ownership kicked in to the long grass, at the moment e..u. but when the u.k. shareholder base become non e.u. residents, ownership under e.u. rules of flying will be in the melting pot.
AS long as your holiday or visit less then 90 days no visa needed, for people living in the e.u. every country is going to set its own resident rules, therefore if you live in Spain the rules will be different to say France, unsettling for those people living in europe without a residents permit, whilst the e.u. advising the 5 year u.k. protocol, is the guide line, President Macron for one has stated each case will be assessed by the regional authority.
Obviously there may be a deal in place by the 29th, but this will not change the rules on airline ownership, but will grant another 12 months extension until the end of 2020.

LBA are doing a new year parking promotion with 10% off using the email link provided - book by 31 January. Just booked some meet and greet parking and it was a doddle.

Lounge discounts are still better via the holiday extras link in money saving expert.

I always use Sentinel Car Park as the cost and service is first class. I've just booked for my trip next week and it was a lot cheaper than expected.
This could be the reason.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
