Flybe

Flybe starting their cuts. Cardiff losing glasgow and paris. It appears bristols link to jersey may have been dropped too . Cannot see any availability for next summer
BRS-JER will cease next month and the summer-only Isle of Man route will not operate next year.

JER is well covered with Blue Islands 2 x daily but IOM may be difficult to replace.

Does anyone think that easyjet may be tempted now to introduce a jersey route now

It was rumoured earlier this year but it would probably be summer-only and may be not daily.

I hope that easyJet doesn't try BRS-JER as it would almost certainly spell the end of the Blue Islands venture which offers good options at 2 x daily.

I suspect too that if easyJet had wanted to operate to JER the presence of Flybe would not have deterred them.

Although Flybe's IOM passenger figures have not been great in the past two summers I wonder whether Blue Islands might extend one of its rotations to IOM in the summer, although perhaps not every day. May not be logistically possible though even if the airline wanted to.

According to a poster on the other forum Flybe will be operating a charter from Bristol to Innsbruck next summer every Saturday on behalf of Inghams, apparently instead of CityJet. The aircraft will operate in a W shaped pattern from MAN and looking at the times may well be an E jet.
BE9230 = INN 10:35 - BRS 11:40 BE9229 = BRS 12:30 - INN 15:30

Timings won't be as good as summer 2017 then when the ARJ positioned in from DUB at 0635 on Saturdays to operate to INN at 0715 but didn't return from INN until 1815 having flown on a 'w' somewhere else in the meantime. This gave the BRS holidaymakers an extra half day in resort.

A 'w' from somewhere else next year will revert to roughly the summer 2016 timings when the CityJet ARJ arrived at BRS in the middle of a 'w' to return to INN an hour later, perpetuating the previous year's Austrian F70 timings and the years before that.

Ten years ago my wife and I did a summer Inghams holiday from BRS to INN. We flew out on an Austrian F100 and back on an Austrian CRJ200. That was in the middle of a 'w' too. We had the larger aircraft outbound because there was a problem with aircraft provision that day and the EXT flight that existed in those days was combined with the BRS flight. EXT passengers were brought to BRS by bus and those returning were also taken by bus back to EXT. We had a lengthy delay I remember.

INN is an interesting airport to land at squeezed as it is in a mountain valley, although it's not an exceptionally narrow valley.

Before I saw the timings i briefly wondered if it was one of CWLs jets that was going to operate it!

15-20 years ago a Flybe Q400 operated a Saturday flight from BRS to Austria in one summer season. I can't remember now whether it was to Salzburg or to Innsbruck. Some people use the Inghams INN for summer holidays year after year. I'd like to see the faces of some if a Q400 arrived to take them.

Innsbruck

Ingham's weekly summer flight re-started last Saturday. This summer the carrier is Flybe with an E175. In the summers of 2017 and 2016 it was a CityJet ARJ85, and in 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 an Austrian F70.

The route didn't operate in the summers 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 having ceased after summer 2007 when the carrier was Austrian, usually with F 70s.

When Thomson stopped their weekly summer Salzburg at the end of summer 2011 (I wish it would return - we used the service a lot with various carriers for Thomson) Ingham's stepped in with their weekly Innsbruck from summer 2012.

Via? Wasn't this available before as connection options?

It appears as a triangular route rather than a change of flight at jersey

Aurigny used to operate to GCI via JER. I remember flying to GCI and dropping in at JER en route. That was in 2004. For several years up to 2002 the BA franchisee also operated a joint JER/GCI route on some of its rotations.

Some years ago Blue Islands applied to operate a GCI-BRS route in competition with Aurigny. The Guernsey regulating authorities intimated they would not issue a route licence so Blue Islands withdrew its application. The application was discussed in the Guernsey news media at the time.

Blue Islands was already operating BRS-JER then. I don't know whether they intended to oerate a straight GCI-BRS-GCI or incorporate it into their BRS-JER route as they are now doing. Whatever that plan was today's news appears to indicate a change of mind on the part of the Guernsey regulators.

Isn't there some kind of open skies now on the Islands?
A few things about this.

This isn't an extra service, it's a tag on starting / ending GCI. GCI-JER-BRS-JER-GCI.
Blue Islands already operate a number of JER-GCI routes, so this is just more streamlined for the passenger. You could book BRS-JER-GCI previously but would usually change aircraft in JER with bags transferred.
Secondly; Unless the schedule isn't properly loaded yet, this is the flights in Jan;
GCI-JER-BRS
Sunday-Thursday. Depart GCI at 0930, CHANGE in JER, arrive BRS 1420 (4hr+ travel time)
Friday. Depart GCI 1230, via JER (No change), Arrive BRS 1420 (1h50 travel time)

BRS-JER-GCI Sunday-Friday appears to be a through ticket (remain on aircraft), with 1h50 travel time.

Lastly. It's stated this will be on the ATR42. Which shows a no actual growth in terms of seats.
Aurigny's stated flight time is 55mins.

I see! This is similar to the CWL-ABZ service with Eastern where the passengers just stay on the aircraft rather than disembarking!

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
