Bristol: CAA Provisional Statistics Update

Use this prefix for new threads for Bristol Airport
Good afternoon - here is my take on the CAA data for October based on the data available on their website and utilising Tables 3, 9, 12.1, 12.2, 12.3 & 13. As usual there is a difference in the passenger total shown on Table 9 and that reach when using the data in Tables 12.1 & 12.3.

LBA – down 14.7%

EDI – down 15.0%

BHX – down 19.6%

LTN – down 20.0%

GLA – dwon 23.1%

BFS – down 23.9%

LGW – down 26.5%

EMA – down 29.9%

Good news is that nearly 8 million passed through the airport in 2022

CAA stats 2022
Bristol saw 7,948,941 passengers use the airport in 2022 up 281% on 2021 (2,087,772). Aircraft movements were 65,909.

Unfortunately data for Bristol is missing from the CAA files for both January & February. I'll try to do some chasing later this week if I get the chance.

Okay I've woken up a little and have noticed that whilst January data is totally missing there are passenger numbers for February.
As a result here is an initial summary.

Posted on the BHX forum by @IanFarquharson - looking at the April terminal passenger figures, BRS managed to handle ~47,000 passengers less than BHX in April!
Normally that figure is well over 100,000 per month and looking back to 2019, BHX handled around 3.5million more passengers than BRS.

957,000 passengers were handled during May up 20% on May 2022 ( thats over 150,000 more !)

Looking at the May terminal passenger figures, BRS managed to handle ~44,500 passengers less than BHX in May! Another month where BRS nearly matches BHX's throughput!

More excitingly, the rolling 12-month total of passengers at BRS is only 1% less than the 2019 figures!
Impressive!
It means that of all the top 20 UK airports, Bristol has recovered the best by far, with STN being next (-7%) followed by LBA (-9%).

I'd expect that to start to change fairly soon. With one of BHX's 2 x daily EK services now upgraded from a high density B777-300 to a high density A380 adds approx 11500 seats per month.
Qatar returning adds approx 15700 seats per month.
and Saudia adds approx 7000 seats per month.
That's a total of approx 34000 new seats per month (as of July). All services are said to be loading extremely well.

I note that the CAA still are lacking data from BRS for movements in the May data file.

I'm currently on holiday but I'll try chasing my new contact when I return next week.

I did chase my BRS contact and asked whether it would be possible to have their Air Transport Movements numbers by today. Unfortunately the reply that I received was as follows "Unfortunately, this is the busiest summer getaway ever for us and the teams are busy dealing with the flight operation. I will not be able to get this data to you to meet your timeline."

In the meantime here is my regular update:

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
