Fly BMI

Strangely i am looking to book 2018 summer flights to Florence with BA from BRS. Just waiting for the 355 day booking window to open so i can cash in my Avios.

BM does not even come into my radar. Seeing the frequency with which their flights are cancelled or delayed what chance any connection to Italy.

I'm not so sure that BM are necessarily expanding their own German services.

According to a post on another message board bmir start Rostock-Stuttgart 6 x weekly and Munich-Saarbrucken 11 x weekly, both from October.

Ah OK, TLY I see your point. I was thinking in the context of expansion ex BRS or the context of the comment regarding the codeshare. Munich-Saarbrucken would obviously have the potential to feed in more traffic through the MUC hub, so a strategy is emerging.

LH are also in the process of rebalancing some of their long haul capacity between FRA and MUC, allegedly due to charges they consider too high at FRA.

If they really are intent on expansion there might be other airports in the UK where they might be looking. In the UK they have the Derry-Stansted PSO route and small bases or operations at ABZ, BHX, NCL, EMA, SOU and MAN (charter only there).

It's reported in the BHX bmir thread that the airline is to base a second aircraft at BHX to serve three new routes, as yet unspecified.

It's not clear from where the aircraft will be sourced. BRS does have a spare based there, I think, but earlier in the year the spare was reportedly being used as a regular aircraft on bmir's network when they were having problems finding sufficient machines.

I notice the BMIR flight to Paris CDG is cancelled today the 26th sat for what ever reason.

The evening FRA was cancelled yesterday (Friday 25th) according to the BRS arrivals page.

What ever the reason for these cancelled flights, its doing the reputation of BMIR no good at all.

They seem to have doing it for so long it's almost become part of their make-up, and not just from BRS.

It makes you wonder just how much more the offering from BMIR would be if they were better organised ! it still seems they are a couple of aircraft short

They seem to be taking on new routes without cutting back on many of the existing ones. With their record of cancellations I sometimes wonder why they don't wait until they can operate the ones they've already got properly. There have been reports on other forums that their PSO Derry-Stansted has been cancelled on occasions

Good job they did not get the airbus shuttle from BRS then. that would have put even more pressure on BMIR.

As i know of all the cancellations at BMIR bristol whilst booking forthcoming flights via the hubs of Frankfurt, Hamburg or Brussels all the best connections and times included BMI in first leg off BRS. I had no choice but to avoid them all and booked on KLM via AMS even though they resulted in longer waiting times at AMS and very early morning flights (pre 5 am airport checkin). I am sure many other business travellers do the same. The brand has been trashed in the past year.

It is a great shame because bmir was receiving rave reviews on Skytrax (unusual on that forum where complaints about airlines/airports are more the order of the day) for the first 12 months or so after Lufthansa sold it. What went wrong subsequently?

Trying to run it their way on the good name they had a few years back. Any business what ever it may be has to have investment and good changes to keep on top of their game.

Out of curiosity, do we have some statistics to back this up and show that it's a real problem? I have been on plenty of early morning KLM flights that were cancelled as well over the years (or rather: they were 'delayed' until the next flight 😛).

I'm not aware of any official statistics. For many years I've been looking at the BRS arrivals/departures, on a daily basis most of the time, and bmir seems to have a disproportionate number of cancellations having regard to the number of flights the airline operates. I got to the stage where I stopped listing them in the BRS Diversions, Delays and Cancellations thread because of the regularity.

I never see anything like as many KLM cancellations (granted they only operate four daily rotations at BRS) and when they do cancel it's often weather-related as it was last week with fog at AMS (it might even have been the week before - time flies by at my age😱)

AMS do suffer with a lot of weather related problems. They do when possible with runway open give priority to the heavies which makes sense. This is why the aircraft stuck in brs goes roughly the same time as the next rotation. They always say cancelled but I wonder if they take the pax that was booked on that rotation as 2 plane load of pax wont fit into 1.the biggest problem with the first brs departure is connecting pax.
Some ppl rave about diversions etc but any diversion for what ever reason causes so many problems for every one concerned.I would say that any BRS rotation cancelled would be weather related and none for low pax numbers.

Yes, I doubt that many of the KLM flights suffer from low passenger numbers. Some aviation aficionados do think it's a great thing when aircraft are diverted into 'their' airport but I'm always conscious of the disruption that diversions can cause, both to passengers and to airlines.

Looks like BMIR are struggling for aircraft again , a German registered CRJ 200 is operating the CDG for them . Just when things seemed to be getting sorted !

This has been planned in advance. It's in BRS for about a week or so. Not sure on the reason why they brought it in though

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
