🅿️ Parking & Transport: Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA)

Report on parking and transport issues.
How much more money are they going to waste before it’s ditched? Total incompetency from both LCC and Brabin who are more concerned in dictating that everyone should be travelling by bus, cycling and walking. The public transport infrastructure in West Yorkshire is a shambles and an integrated Weaver Network is a pipe dream.

Kicking the can down the road. Right now there's probably as much chance of the parkway happening as DSA reopening.
Dead Silent Airport will never open….never.

I for one, don't think we need a rail link unless it's going to come directly to the airport which we know will never happen.
Interesting to see other airports that have no direct or any rail link to them and they seem to be doing just fine.View attachment 33790View attachment 33791
However it could affect the committments the airport have made to LCC in terms of reducing car usage and pressure on the roads.

Another thing with a railway station down the road….like most airports we have a quite a few flights leave between 6-8am so to check in 2hrs before your 6 am flight you need a train to be dropping you off at the station at 03:45…to get the shuttle bus up to the airport…same with a 7am flight, at the station at 04:45 and your 8am flight, at the station at 05:45.

Same when you land at 1, 2 or 3 in the morning. Would trains run 24hrs a day as they would need too for it to work otherwise it's a total waste of money.

The proposed Parkway Station is dual purpose, so not a waste of money. It provides a badly needed park and ride facility for Cookridge residents and anyone else living in the NW Leeds area, and takes pressure off Horsforth, which is the 2nd busiest station in Leeds, but doesn't have the parking facilities needed.

That said, you are right in that unless trains run in the early hours with shuttle buses to meet them, there will be a limit to how many passengers are able to use the parkway station, or any other for that matter. Effectively, only passengers flying in the 2nd phase of flights during the day or third phase early evening would be able to go by train. If there's no train for the return due to landing at 0200, they will go by car. But would Northern run trains 24/7? Highly doubtful.

It is also highly doubtful that trains would operate 24/7 had a purpose built airport station been built. So the problem remains. The rail option is only ever going to capture a low percentage of airport passengers but if it keeps the council happy by reducing car journeys and provides NW Leeds with that much needed park and ride, then it remains a good thing.

Would Northern run trains 24/7? Only if LBA paid for them!
That's why we need them back in government ownership.
Most if not all trains through Kirkstall cancelled today!
Any real need? Wouldn't happen back in the day.
They knew the wind was due so get folk out to check for fallen trees on tracks? Really? How many happened on that line?
Too much emphasis on h and s now and making profit. Cover costs for services that people need to get from a to b whether work, travel or social needs
I can't climb that ladder first rung it's windy? Case in point mentioned about fueling aircraft? What happened in 70s and 80s? The job got done!
Like at @LBAforever states no wonder country in a state. I worry for my 3 boys!

I wrote to LBA last week asking if a shuttle bus link was feasible to/from Apperley Bridge pending the arrival of the Parkway Station at the end of the century. (!!) Below is the reply.............and the response is clearly relating to a commercial service, indicating that LBA would not be willing to operate such a service themselves as they would to the Parkway Station.

''We’ve looked at the express bus option from Apperley Bridge previously, but there was resistance from WYCA as it’s hard to coordinate the rail and bus timetables to make sure either people weren’t left standing around waiting for a bus, or the bus was leaving empty. The rail service needs to be more frequent for the bus option to be commercially viable I believe.''

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
