Birmingham: Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Use this prefix for new threads for Birmingham Airport
The weather seems to be heading slowly north, I know someone who is currently in the Lake District and they've said it's apparently expected there this afternoon. No heavy rain or thunder here now just grey clouds.

The worst of the weather seems to have gone east of the Pennines around Nottingham so I think we are lucky

Another heavy storm has been passing directly over the airport.

East Midlands has received our Wizz flight from Suceava.

EasyJet from Edinburgh and Aer Lingus from Dublin are also holding near EMA.

EMA has took approx 13 divs from LTN/BHX/MAN. If they don't get out before the next storm (heading north along the M1) and the cargo influx, there maybe trouble ahead.

British Airways B772 G-YMMO operating San Diego-Heathrow diverted in earlier today.
Does anyone have the knowledge regarding the reason for this diversion? Looking at the landing conditions at LHR I cannot understand why, at just 15 minutes out, It changed its normal course to the NE and routed via Northampton/Daventry to BHX.

BHX diversion departures

TK6904 BHX-IST ETD 13:30
EK2504 BHX-DXB ETD 10:00
WY102 BHX-MCT Departed 08:05

BHX diversion departures

TK6904 BHX-IST ETD 13:30
EK2504 BHX-DXB ETD 10:00
WY102 BHX-MCT Departed 08:05
TC-JYO positioning back to IST at 11:00 as TK6897, night stopped in BHX looks like it'll have some passengers on it

Todays weather caused a Jet2 737 to take an excursion at speed onto rthe grass just after touchdown the pilots fortunately got it back on the runway so only casualty will runway lighting. Definitely will be cause for a AAIB investigation.

A very similar incident happened a year or two back at LBA when a Tui 737-800 aircraft landing in high winds and rain veered to the left of the runway. but unlike this incident the crew failed to recover from what had happened which lead to the aircraft fully leaving the paved surface onto the grass at high speed. Possibly a different cause to this incident but if you count the seconds following the touchdown they only had about 5 or 6 seconds to recover from whatever went wrong.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
