Birmingham: EasyJet Flights, New Routes & Base Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Birmingham Airport
Update on the potential takeover bids must be made formal next week or they fail. Clearlake have until close of play Monday and Apollo until Friday,

It looks like the deal is done for the takeover with Castlake dropping out Easy jet have confirmed an agreement of the sale.with Apollo. Crucially Stellios is backing the deal and Apollo have stated they will continue with a plan of continuing growth for the airline. The offer will now go to the shareholders subject to no last minute hitches to approve or reject.

With the backing of Stellios I would guess it gets the nod as he has stated he will remain invested for the long term.what it mean for the likes of BHX I've no idea.

We will have to wait and see how this pans out, but quotes like this are certainly more encouraging...

"Apollo said it was "highly supportive" of the airline's existing strategy, adding there was "a significant opportunity to accelerate the operational and commercial ambitions" for the EasyJet Group.

"EasyJet is a leader in European aviation, having built a differentiated market position through its compelling customer proposition, expansive network and strong brand," said Alex van Hoek, partner and European private equity lead at Apollo."

Some slight spin in the press release stating MXP as a brand new route but good to see it back.

Tivat is an interesting one, especially coming before the more established destinations such as IBZ, MAH, ZTH etc. Maybe some local incentives to increase tourism to the region?

Showing 7 aircraft on a Mon morning and FUE not bookable for summer. If we see a couple of new routes and FUE, AGA and maybe KRK operate for summer we could see a 7th. Thanks to Pete for the breakdown.

The announcement of the two routes also featured on the BBC local news update this morning which is rare to see

Agadir and Fuerteventura I have a feeling it will be seasonal when it shouldn’t be

Wouldn’t rule out a few more new routes
Naples,Paphos maybe?

Just noticed that TIV is on the same days as jet2 (Mon/Thu). i notice a lot of our less frequently served routes have two airlines flying on the same days and sometimes even departing within a couple of hours of each other.

I’d have thought that’s not ideal but I suppose that if they didn’t mimic rival airlines’ schedules, customers might choose a rival airline for the sake of an extra day or two on holiday.

Normally I would expect PFO at some point but Cyprus has taken a hit thanks to the war in the Middle East.

I’m surprised Lyon was dropped. Would be nice to see it back. Bilbao, Marseille and Basel haven’t been served in living memory but are served from the likes of BRS and EMA.

Bilbao and Basel no, but didn't Ryanair serve MRS when they first opened the base 🤔

The coincidence of different airlines flying to destinations on the same day is often down to technical requirements at the other end - hotel switch over days, coach availability, airport slots etc. There would be some merit, I would have thought, in offering different days from your competition but that is not always possible.

OY' juliet-fox-9 I'll have you know I'm still living as far as I know and Basel was indeed served by Crossair in the 1990'sdirect and by the short lived Duo 😃

BHX is missing more than a few routes it used to have as markets change over time

I am unable to comment on 'todays' route availability/requirements, but back in my day with BY & KG, we 'Brits' in the main had allocated days. Ie MAH always Fri & Mon, LEI, Thurs & Sun, ALC, Sat & Sun, etc etc with midweek flights thrown in where applicable to cater for 10/11 nht holidays. The Germans, French, Scandinavian etc, would have separate days of operation.

Marseille was served by Maersk around 2001 with the 737 and by Thomsonfly from Coventry around 2004 but I'm not sure Duo with the CRJ did too. Likewise I'm not sure Basel was served by Duo; of course Maersk served Lyon for some years using, initially, the 1-11 and IIRC briefly the F50 on loan from the Danish parent.

Another one here old enough to remember Crossair serving Basel.

I also seem to remember Air France flying to Lyon on a franchise with what I think was called Brit Air?

Pretty sure I flew Marseille from Birmingham many years ago with Ryanair?

The full list of routes in the 2008 announcement. There's quite a few that I'd like to see return.

Barcelona, Spain
Biarritz, France
Billund, Denmark
Bologna, Italy
Bratislava, Slovakia
Bydgoszcz, Poland
Dinard, France
Dublin, Republic of Ireland
Gdansk, Poland
Marseille, France
Olbia, Italy
Oslo, Norway
Perpignan, France
Pisa, Italy
Poitiers, France
Porto, Portugal
Shannon, Republic of Ireland
Stockholm, Sweden
Trieste, Italy
Reus, Spain
Rzeszow, Poland
Trapani, Italy

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
