Monarch Airlines

The truth will out eventually.
It would appear that the MON owners and investors are meeting to try and raise some extra finances. They are also looking to cut loss making services and even reduce the aircraft fleet.
This would explain why the main bases have seen reductions,so could it be a worrying time for LBA and EMA who have yet to see a program for 2015!!!
I just hope MON come out of this stronger but a time for concern for all.

Yes, some very strong words used, we may look back and think we actually got off lightly only losing one aircraft. As said hopefully they'll find the right direction and will emerge stronger.

In a statement issued yesterday in response to the press reports, Monarch said: “The group confirms it is undergoing a strategic review under the leadership of new non-executive chairman Sir Roy McNulty and chief executive Andrew Swaffield.

“The review covers all areas of the business from operations to ownership and financing, with the objective of determining the optimum structure to realise the significant opportunity to build on the respected Monarch brand and distinctive offer to its customers in the budget airline market”.

Monarch is a great brand and im sure they will be fine, if i have a choice of Monarch or Ryanair, it would always be Monarch.
Yes at the moment we have lost one aircraft for Summer 2015, however we are gonna see significant increases from both Thomson and Thomas cook who also are popular with travellers and also need our support.

Hopefully there are enough customers for all of them.

Some interesting developments today with Monarch pulling out of EMA, the press release also stated 'The Airline expects to add more flights to its programme for next summer in the coming months', so I guess we're going to find out soon just how BHX fits into their plans. I hope we do get some good news out of it, they seem to be aiming for higher frequencies on key routes and more city break destinations so it would be very welcome if we saw a new route or two.

A snippet from the interview on the Monarch Blog.

We have already released four bases – Luton, Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester and may still add flights to these bases over the coming months

And could mean Birmingham is back upto 9 aircraft for Summer 2015. Lets hope so.
Unfortunately could be at the expense of EMA, but thats business i suppose. BHX has had to see JEt2 and Ryanair expand at EMA over the years with no expansion at BHX at all on these same routes.

Hopefully we might see Monarch switch Malta to BHX and increases on some of the bucket and spade routes - as for new city break routes the likes of Lisbon, Pisa and Prague spring to mind.

I can't find flights to Hurghada with Monarch for Summer 2015, only up to May 15. But then it starts again for the winter seasons. Strange.. Although I have to admit, my flight was about half full, they let us change seats when we were allowed to move, you could have basically had a row to yourself (which I did so I could lie down 😆 )

I don't think the Monarch timetable for next year is fully complete yet and with all the reshuffling it may not be for another couple of months. At the moment BHX is a based aircraft and 22 weekly flights down on this year but things may well change as Monarch have said more flights could be added to existing bases, so hopefully we may see something.

The Monarch IT flights to Corfu, Rhodes and Zakynthos which were this year operated by Monarch are showing as being operated by Small Planet Airlines for summer 2015. Preveza still shows a MON flight code but with what's going on there could well be more changes.

Preveza - MAN - 1xweekly (sunday) & BHX 1xweekly (sunday)

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this post but I have just noticed on FR24 the routing that ZB425 from Las Palmas has taken.
It has skirted the Atlantic coasts of Spain and France all the way up to Ireland and overhead Waterford towards Dublin. Then it turned right overflying North Wales and Cheshire before making a northern (Chase)approach to runway 15.
Is this weather related or does this happen regularly??
Seems a tad unusual.

Looking at FR24 and ZB995 from Hurghada has routed over AMS then carried on north almost as far as Sheffield before turning south over the peak district :s_dunno

Kefalonia is now bookable every Saturday from May 16th on Small Planet Airlines. There are also other increases meaning 9 aircraft are used on certain days.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
