Wonder if you’ve seen a certain DSA related group posting this reduction as way of gloating. I would expect engine issues and fleet groundings as a source of this, any idea what the loadings are like?

I wouldn't waste my time reading the tosh they come out with. Sad and bitter. The cuts would almost certainly have happened to DSA too. As for loads I can only repeat that according to LBA management, Wizz were happy with loads and they had seen an increase in passengers since moving to LBA. That was in June 2023.

Here's a bit more on Wizz Air's financials & the Pratt & Whitney engine problems meaning 10% of it's fleet (45 aircraft) could be grounded by end of next year.

I hope so although I am still seeing this as media spin. As you know I am not totally convinced by these "engine excuses". Not saying they don't exist because they do, but think there is more to this and it's a convenient deflection. And yes meant to say deflection rather than distraction. I also remain happy for my scepticism to be proven well and truly wrong, for Wizz, for the industry and especially for LBA

Yes - it seems those in South Yorks will look for any opportunity to have a pop at LBA - even those in roles in which they should know better!

Then there were 6. Wizz Air now only fly 6 routes from Leeds Bradford Airport.
Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice, Krakow, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca.
These flights transferred there on DSAs temporary closure. This winter, frequencies seem to be well down as well.
Remember these 14 Wizz Air routes from Doncaster Sheffield Airport?
Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice, Krakow, Poznan, Lublin, Wroclaw, Budapest, Debrecen, Kosice, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Vilnius, Riga.
Yes, DSA lost some routes with Brexit and Covid travel demand reductions but soon Wizz will be just flying from London (Luton and Gatwick) if the trend in Yorkshire and elsewhere continues.
Incidentally, only 17 public passenger flights in total from Leeds Bradford today.
Cargo operations, aircraft repair and maintenance and connections to key European and Middle Eastern hubs are going to be a vital part of DSAs resurrection, remembering that there was a time not too long ago, on wet winter Wednesdays, that DSA had no public passenger flights.

Yes, maybe only 13 flights yesterday, but that's 13 more than DSA on the wet Wednesdays he has the decency to refer to. Shame he doesn't bother to research the reasons behind the Wizz cuts, or realise that November is the quietest month of the year at all regional airports. Or maybe he know but it suits his purpose better to ignore them.

The one thing you can be certain of in the world of airports is that their critics rarely bother to consider facts or reality before speaking their nonsense. To give him some credit, at least he and his mates in South Yorkshire go through the motions of supporting their non existent airport, even if their support is reliant on an element of fantasy and a need to slag off the one passenger airport serving airport in Yorkshire. They can't hide their bitterness and it must really upset them to know that that one airport will shortly be investing in growth.

If only the politicians of Leeds , Bradford and West Yorkshire would care enough to bother.

Looks like they’ve all been busy harassing Question Time today where, guess what.. The focus is on discussing topics of national and international significance. Bubble thinking.

As for that bloke, he was on the airport consultative committee when it was running. Hasn’t a clue what he’s on about.

Thankfully I don't watch it anymore.

For anybody wishing to contact the Peter, the links are in the post above by @Snackbar

The scale of the engine problem is immense and is expected to cost P&W around 7 billion dollars. It’s estimated there are a total of around 3000 engines that need inspection with around 600-700 needing repair, this taking 250-300 days from the time the engine comes off the wing. The impact on large customers such as Wizz cannot be underestimated. Worldwide, in the first half of 2024 it’s expected that 600-650 aircraft will be grounded, which by any measure is a huge impact on any airline using these engines.

I made a point of not watching it as soon as I knew it was from Doncaster. It was inevitable they would raise the issue of DSA.

Didn't watch it but in spite of the bluster and 'we'll show them' attitude I noticed that on the campaign sites that no one had their DSA related questions accepted. I think it came as a shock that the programme, as you say, is only interested in National issues.

Imagine if it came to Leeds? The very thought of they who shall not be named invading national television!

hopefully Summer will increase also.. FR now on sale x3 weekly, Wizz only x2.. be good for them to strengthen their position
The only problem being that by summer, the loss of their 45 aircraft will really start to bite. So will they be able to respond? I hope so. But if they dont, it's clear that it's due to lack of aircraft rather than lack of demand or desire to fight the route with Ryanair. If that were the case, they certainly wouldn't be increasing to 4 weekly in winter.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
