Leeds Bradford: Airport Application To Amend Night Flying Quota Methodology

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
LCC are doing their best to allow G***A time to catch up on LBA support, as inexplicably, they have again extended the consultation period to the 15th October. Looking in the bright side, thats another 3 weeks to gather more support, so important we keep pushing this.

Received today from LBA.

Dear ACC Member

Thank you for those who could attend the meeting on Wednesday.

As a follow up, please find PDF versions of the presentations made for the Ground Mount Solar Farm and the S73 Application. I would be grateful if you could discuss these with your respective members & councillors.

In respect of the S73 Application, a number of members confirmed they were drafting responses to the consultation which has now been extended to 15th October by LCC. I’ve responded to a number of members individually, but I would urge all councillors and members to read the information submitted with the application on LCC’s planning portal, in particular the Noise Assessment Report (attached), as this will answer many of the question members have and dispel many of the myths about the application that have been put forward on social media by those opposed to the application. Additionally, the animation that we referenced at the ACC meeting explains very clearly what we are looking to achieve with the application - https://supportlba.co.uk/

As the planning application documents are very detailed in nature, I am happy to speak with any member who needs to understand them fully before they commit to writing a response to LCC. We feel it is important any responses to the S73 consultation process are based upon factual evidence contained in the application documents, and not on any misunderstandings derived from social media content or misinformation from those opposed to the application.

The amount of support the application has from the public, businesses and passengers who use the airport is significant, into the 1,000’s, and certainly far greater than the planning portal is showing due to the way LCC are collating the letters of support.

This is ridiculous, presumably the airport didnt have a say when it comes to this latest extension.

That wouldn't be allowed by the council. The airport have been in bother in the past for putting up signage on their own land without approval and had to remove it. Not a chance on council land outside a cemetary.
But the support group could do it. Do we have anyone who can produce some basic laminated posters. I can take them up to the cemetery and cable tie them.

Thanks to everyone who has canvassed friends and relatives and submitted their own support.

Now the deadline for submissions has been extended we have time to plan a concerted effort.

We are all members of the LBA Support Group and it would be great to receive any suggestions you may have what you can do to help.

As examples, can you post a link to www.supportlba.co.uk on your local community website with a brief intro? That would be easy and bring in lots of support.

Could you give some time to visit spotting sites around the airport and spreading the word?

We have a lot of passionate members on here and now is the time to act rather than just engage in forum chat.

One of the things I’ve done is pick the most relevant LBA support graphics and post them in the comments on a few media outlets covering the story. If we can get these images circulated far and wide, they will get noticed.

Think LBA are extending this so it's longer before they have to upset they who shall not be named when they approve the application

Its just time for the opposition to come up with a simplified submission process like the airport has.

It looks suspiciously like certain people/groups have made representations to LCC for the extension once they got wind of the enormous support for the planning application as a result of LBA’s campaign. If this is the case let’s hope it backfires and gives more time for even more responses in support. The only reaction so far from G***a is to urge their supporters to spread the word by whatever means to drum up objections.

The council absolutely shouldn't take any notice of either side seeking an extension to further their cause. There seems to be no reasonable explanation for a further 15 day extension but I have written to the airport to see if they have any explanation.

As we keep saying, this is not a vote. LBA could get 10k in support and still have the application refused. Equally G***A could secure a sudden rush of objections and still lose.

My concern is the make up of the Plans Panel and the likelihood they will vote in accordance with their party policies - which in some cases appears to be aligned with G***A. Councillors generally seem disinterested in the views of the people they are supposed to represent. When did one ever ask your opinion before objecting and making various outrageous claims before even seeing the airport submission.

We are used to the councils stall tactics. We saw the same tactics used during the CLUED process.
I understamd that like the CLEUD, there is a time limit within which the plans panel must make a decision, with LBA having the right to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate if they dont. Perhaps that's the plan! Delay so long the airport appeals and the council no longer have to make the decision!

Surely the airport and council have held discussions before this planning application was put in?

I.am sure they have, with the Planning Department. But the Plans Panel are a different matter and not bound to follow the recommendation of the Planning Officer.

Whether or not there were preliminary discussions beforehand, it seems that once the S73 application went in, the council didn't liaise with LBA regarding the consultation.

Well, I haven't received a single suggestion yet!

Has anyone yet posted the supportlba.co.uk site on their local community forum?

G***A are all over this and we need to match their efforts not just talk about it.

Yes, Im getting frustrated again.

Afterthought- if you let me know which local forums you are planning to post to I will ensure theres no duplication.

Maybe the Council are just playing a straight bat knowing that a certain group will pounce on them with their lawyers if they stray from the path of impartiality during the consultation phase.
They are doing exactly the opposite of a straight bat by extending beyond the original expiry date. The extra few days from the 25th to the 30th was to compensate for the downtime suffered by the portal, but this extra 15 days is for no obvious valid reason given there was no requirement to consult in the first place. They are doing exactly what they did with the CLEUDs. Delay and more delay. I honestly think the council and plans panel are terrified of airport planning matters as they know that whatever the outcome, it will all kick off.

I am sure it would suit them just fine if they delay to the point LBA appeal and the matter is taken out of their hands.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
