Went over to Amsterdam last Wednesday morning (14th), along with Mrs Q, and came back on the German Airways teatime flight yesterday (Wednesday 21st).
Both were reasonably punctual, though we were 20 minutes or so late taking off on the flight back. The Captain said they were waiting for a mechanic to "come and tighten a screw".
The flight over was maybe 85-90% full, and we had got a text inviting us to check in our cabin baggage beforehand (which I was happy to do with my small wheely case). I just had my little backpack in the cabin, and it fitted in one of the overhead lockers with no problems, along with my coat. We were on an E175 PH-EXW.
We landed in Amsterdam on the Polderbaan, the most distant runway, and spent probably the next 5 minutes taxiing to the terminal, where we joined what appeared to be a "Cityhopper Corner" with about 20 other Embraers. Bus then to the terminal - clearly an airbridge would be too much for us plebs. Thankfully it wasn't raining.
For the flight back, we were on the German Airways E-190 with the "75th Anniversary of Herpa" livery D-ACJJ. We hadn't had a message asking us to check in our cabin baggage as we had for the flight over to AMS.
The plane looked 100% full to me, and we all had all of our cabin baggage in with us, which meant it was difficult to find space for my wheely case in the overhead locker. I dutifully put my backpack under the seat in front.
We came into land at Cardiff over the Bristol Channel. The sky looked like something off a Turner painting, so it was good that we had a smooth landing.
All in all, I was happy with the service we got on both flights. I do wonder whether the lack of a message to us regarding cabin baggage was due to some weakness in the communication between German Airways and KLM.
