Does anyone know what october 2012 & december 2012 passenger figures were as unable to find them..thanks...andyc

Sorry mate only just had chance to have a look. In Oct 2012 BHX handled 688613 and Dec 2012 saw 448247.

Up 3.4%, going to have a look through some of the route stats now.

Birmingham Airport handled 588,102 passengers during November 2013
- an increase of 3.4% on the previous year

Another good month - and another month that builds on a strong month
the previous year when the November 2012 passengers numbers were up
3.9% so that gives a 7.5% increase over two years

Emirates - up 10.7% - and Turkish - up 23.0% - both had another excellent
month despite the recent arrival of Air India in the Asian market for onward
connecting passengers. Overall traffic in this market increased by 22.3%

This was also the first full month of the winter schedules which has seen
capacity increases on a number of routes and the arrival of Germanwings who
have taken over the services to Berlin Tegel and Hamburg from Lufthansa

As TUI/Thomson reported last week the IT/package tour market is currently
undergoing a revival after many years of decline and this was reflected in a
8.1% increase in the November 2013 IT passengers also helped by the new
Freebird Airlines service to Antalya

During November significant growth was achieved
on scheduled flights to destinations such as -
Bergamo 77.6%, Stuttgart 45.3%, Waterford 36.9%,
Milan Malpensa 27.0%, Istanbul 23.0%, Funchal 17.0%
Dublin 12.7%, Katowice 12.3% and Dubai 10.7%

Charter traffic which experience growth included -
Barbados 192.3%, Turkey 120.8% and Portugal 106.3%

Scheduled traffic accounted for 89.2% of the total passenger traffic
in November whilst charter passengers made up the remaining 10.8%

Air India saw 7108 which I make a load factor of approx 82%.

Islamabad 7835 up 14%.

Turkish 7708 up 23%.

Turkmenistan 4663 down 11%.

Dubai 42710 up 11%.

New York 7491 up 9.5%.

BHX outdone again by EMA on ALC, AGP, PMI and TFS.

December 574035 up 7.9%, rolling year 9117096 up 2.3% which makes it the second best December after 2008, no doubt the amount of diverts taken would have helped.

Amritsar 3296 with Delhi 4034 giving AI a load factor of roughly 90%.

Islamabad -3%

Turkish +45%

Turkmenistan broke even (good to see even with AI doing well)

United +7.5

Dubai is showing as 246 pax for the whole of Dec at -99% so we'll wait for the true figure 😀

A few highlights, Bridgetown +70%, Chambery +75% Copenhagen +20%, Brussels +20%, Paris +8.5%, Dusseldorf +17%, Frankfurt +10%, Stuttgart +89%, Dublin +18%, Milan +82% and Malta +21%. Berlin is still looking shaky at -27% and Stockholm hasn't been doing great lately either.

The BHX blog is showing Dubai as up 9.8%, they're usually accurate.

Birmingham Airport reveals largest passenger rise since 2005

The airport recorded a 10.6 per cent passenger increase in January compared to the same month last year – the first time it has experienced double digit growth since December 2005.

Birmingham Airport has recorded its largest monthly rise in passengers for more than eight years.

The airport recorded a 10.6 per cent passenger increase in January compared to the same month last year – the first time it has experienced double digit growth since December 2005.

In total, 549,489 travellers passed through the airport during the first month of the year, and long-haul traffic saw a major rise of 23.8 per cent compared to January 2013.

Significant growth was also seen on a number of scheduled short-haul services, including Chambery (+233.6 per cent), Fuerteventura (+175.6 per cent), Waterford (+127.9 per cent), Arrecife (+123.2 per cent), Madeira (+113.3 per cent), Stuttgart (+106.9 per cent), and Milan (+73.8).

Charter flights experiencing double digit growth in January were Barbados (+55.1 per cent) and Mexico (+17.9 per cent), as holiday makers escape the wet and windy January weather in search of sun and sea.

This growth comes after the airport handled more than nine million passengers in 2013 – breaking the nine million passenger mark for the first time in a calendar year since 2009.

Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport’s chief executive, said: “These January figures show that more and more people are realising the benefits of using Birmingham as an alternative to other airports to fly for business and leisure.

“This is a great start to 2014 and we look forward to offering even more choice this year as several new routes are launched and extra capacity is made available on key routes.”

The split between scheduled and charter flights in January was 88.6 per cent scheduled and 11.4 per cent charter.

Hi ray. Just seen January last months passenger figures in Birmingham post. Says 549,489 a10.9per cent rise. Andyc

As already posted BHX saw 549682 up 10.8, rolling total is 9168028 up 2.9.

Air India saw 3866 pax, roughly an 84% LF.

Islamabad up 7.9%

Turkish up 38% (double daily must surely be under consideration)

Turkmenistan up 22% (great to see them recover after a dip even with AI doing well)

Emirates up 12.7%

United up 1.5%.

Highlights

Brussels up 14%, Copenhagen up 24%, CDG up 15%, Dusseldorf up 30%, Frankfurt up 11%, Stuttgart up 107%, Dublin up 25%, Milan up 74%, Malta up 26%, Funchal up 38%, Barcelona up 7.5%, Canaries were all up ACE 25%, FUE 5%, LPA up 21% and TFS up 2%, Geneva up 6%.

Could do better

Zurich -8.9%, Stockholm didn't operate and Berlin at -35% remains critical although I can only assume yields must be quite high.

Impressive. Could we see the 10m barrier being broken this year?

10 million? Hmm.

It would require an extra 831972 in the next 11 months. Or, an extra 75,634 pax per month, or 2521 per day based on a 30 day month.

Is there enough new capacity announced to cater for this growth? Im genuinely unsure so Ill leave that answer to Ray.

I'm no expert but I can't see 10 million this year. If we have a good summer and Flybe's new routes perform well then I'd like to think maybe 9.5 million is possible, the 2008 record was 9,627,589 but I think it might be just out of reach for 2014. Flybe aside I think the only extra capacity we're seeing this year is 2x weekly Aegean, Monarch going from 5x A321 and 4 A320 to 7x A321 and 2x A320, some increases from Aer Lingus and an extra month of the Air Transat A330 replacing the A310?

There is still a chance Turkish could go double daily at some point this year, we don't know what Air India are planning, they've said there will be extra frequency and/or routes just not when, and there is still the possibility of Biman starting in June (not holding my breath). Any of these would a help the numbers but they could just as easily not happen as happen.

Hi there ray. I think it will be next year 2015 before Birmingham hits the 10 million not this year. andtc

10 million in 2015 could be possible but for me it would definitely be a best case scenario.

We don't know which of the new routes, if any, Flybe will carry on into the winter programme and which of the new routes will be back for summer next year. I'm hoping that despite the competition they can make ALC and PMI work, if they can then any under performing routes could possibly be replaced by the likes of AGP and FAO rather than being dropped all together.

Monarch were rumoured to be basing a 10th unit last year but with a base now just up the road at EMA will that still happen?

Emirates third daily is still rumoured, nothing will happen before the DXB runway works next summer but I'm hoping for a picture of Mr Kehoe and the EK reps on runway opening day announcing a third service starting later in the year but nothing is guaranteed. With all the talk about the runway extension to me the silence is now deafening.

Turkish are much rumoured to being going to 12 or 14 weekly but nothing yet.

Biman are still a will they won't they start and if they do will they won't they stay. Tickets were to be on sale Dec, then Jan then early Feb but still nothing. The route was due to start April, now it's June. Brand new 773's were to be used now it's a clapped out 772. Still more questions than answers on this one for me.

Air India have said there will be added frequency and/or new routes, there is also the possibility of a larger aircraft being used, especially if YYZ is tagged on. The route is only six months old though so it may be a while yet.

I think there is still a question mark hanging over Air Transat. BHX is the only UK airport left with one destination and that's only still going because Canadian Affair can't sell the seats fast enough. They've moaned about the expensive BHX charges before but in the next year or two I can see BHX's hand being forced to either improve the offer and see extra YYZ and maybe even YVR and YYC or lose the service altogether. Sadly, knowing BHX, if AI are planning to add Toronto then I can see it being the latter.

Stockholm is back this year but the route has been hit and miss at best. In fairness the timings have been changed several times but I get the feeling if it doesn't work this time it'll be gone for good.

So, best case scenario, Flybe maintain a similar programme to this year with any under performing routes replaced rather than dropped, Monarch add another aircraft, Turkish go 12 or 14 weekly, Biman turn up and stick around, Emirates add a morning service, everything else remains the same with maybe the odd addition here or there and hopefully something from AI. With all that I think the record would definitely be broken, whether it would be enough for 10 million I don't know.

What are the chances of that happening though? As we know BHX usually gives with one hand and takes away with the other 🙄

They're released on or around the 15th of the month so either Friday or Monday I'd imagine.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
