Leeds Bradford: Airport Application To Amend Night Flying Quota Methodology

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
I do several renewals a week, however we still need a means of gauging what level of support the members of the forum have given.

What if no one makes the effort?

They are doing exactly the opposite of a straight bat by extending beyond the original expiry date. The extra few days from the 25th to the 30th was to compensate for the downtime suffered by the portal, but this extra 15 days is for no obvious valid reason given there was no requirement to consult in the first place. They are doing exactly what they did with the CLEUDs. Delay and more delay. I honestly think the council and plans panel are terrified of airport planning matters as they know that whatever the outcome, it will all kick off.

I am sure it would suit them just fine if they delay to the point LBA appeal and the matter is taken out of their hands.
Equally the government is also terrified of airport planning applications as Andy Burnham has just said that the decision on a third runway at Heathrow should be down to the local Councils involved as part of his devolution of powers to the local level. Nobody wants to deal with them because as you say their feet will be held to the fire whatever the decision.

Fairly sure it was local mayors where there is one, so it would be our Tracey here and we all know how supportive she is!! But there's a big difference between demolishing a small town, diverting the M4 and building a 3rd runway, and changing night hours to match nearly every other airport and adopting an annual quota count limit instead of a movement limit, which is also as used at most airports. Both comply with Government and CAA policy so it really shouldn't be an issue.

We can only hope it’s all done and dusted and approved before Tracey gets her mitts on such applications. Knowing her she’d want to build two super duper cycle lanes down each side of the runway with cyclists having priority over incoming and departing aircraft.

Hopefully a wander through the new security area and maybe Duty Free if its not far off finished?
Unless of course its in the studios in Leeds. They should sit Vince Hodder down on the same sofa as Nick Hodgkinson. That should be fun. I think Vince is on holiday though. Could be Joselyn instead.

Ive made several posts to gauge what level support members forum members have given over and above submitting their personal support to LCC. No responses.

I have given suggestions. No responses.

What am I to conclude?

That not everyone wants to share specific details of everything they do, or have done. Doesn't mean to say further action hasn't been completed.
Equally it could be nothing has been done.
All I am saying here is we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions either way just because details haven't been shared. People share what they want to

Maybe not everyone does want to share but is it the case that no one wants to share?

Im sorry, but we have a free hobby that revolves around the airport and costs us nothing. On rare occasions when the airport needs our help we should be prepared to 'pay back' and mobilise.

There are a lot of stong views expressed on here but it seems to me very little action. All that is required is a little from everyone to make a big difference.

I know I have got a least 20 people to either email or use the portal, I have asked others to also but it’s there choice if they do but I would be disappointed if they don’t

There's nothing else I can do, because of my location and age anyone I could ask to support additionally either wouldn't care or would just never get around to it, and any groups I'm in would be preaching to the converted. The closest people to the airport I know live in Harrogate and it's hardly on their priority list. Best I can really do is repost any social media activity by the airport

we have a free hobby
You hit the the nail on the head LBAYORKIE, it's a hobby, at least it is for most of us on here although I do realise that a number of forum members either do work at the airport of have done in the past - or might aspire to in the future. For the record I have submitted my support to the council portal a couple of weeks ago, and found it very easy to do. However, I live over 30 miles away, work full time plus some more in my own business and haven't got the time to go down the airport rallying support or asking friends to do something that many of them wouldn't care two hoots about.
Similarly, I'm lucky enough to hold a season ticket for a premier league football club but I don't go to every home game and have never been to an away game...........there's more to life than football just as there is more to life than LBA - both are my hobbies.
I would, though, be absolutely astounded if the current planning escapade does not get passed, simply from a point of view of level playing field with other airports it should be passed. As White Heather and others have said it's legal process as opposed to a straight planning application.

I totally agree, if each person just posts the www.supportlba.co.uk site on their local community websites that would be great. We are a regional airport so anyone resident in Yorkshire can legitimately submit support.
I live in North Yorkshire and it hasn't stopped me!

Well, I hope others have a more positive outlook. Its up to you if you dont want to do any more than the bare minimum. If this doesnt get passed your hobby could be diminished but again that's your choice.

@LBAYORKIE you remain way too presumptuous here. As @michael says he doesn't have the time and this applies to many of us who work full time, have family to consider as well as other interests. That doesn't mean we don't care and as with anything in life you will always get some people doing more than others. As long as everyone on here has at least submitted their own support via the portal then they have done their bit. For those that have gone above and beyond then thank you, but that is their own choice and no one should be being dictated to here with regards to what they should be doing

Given we have had two weeks to act, and now another two added by LCC, I think its reasonable to ask someone to find ten minutes to put the link onto their community website.

I see this as paying the airport back for the many years of enjoyment they have given me.

OK, for what it's worth, I wouldn't normally wish to outline what I have done (or not done) but it seems I need to.

I submitted my support via the portal in all my own words, around 2 days after the application went in. I have got my daughters, their other halves, my ex and their other half to submit their suppport, and my best friends, one of which got his partner, daughter and son in law to do it too. I have copied the airport produced initiatives on to my own FB page (zero response from anyone), posted initial requests for support on at least 3 or 4 aviation forums, and followed up with reminders. I also forwarded the airport video to various FB friends requesting they add their support. Inbetween times, I have challenged both Baildon Green party and Weetwood Labour over their objections, commented on or corrected numerous anti airport on line comments, written at least four letters to LBA to establish the facts, and posted the outcomes on here along with numerous other posts, and of course attended the ACC and done my report.

Although in the past I have done canvassing and manned an airport exhibit in lieu of airport staff, I have reached a point in life where my stress levels need to be managed, and coming face to face with airport opponents who haven't a clue puts those levels up, so I avoid one to one confrontation scenarios. Hence I do not attend Community Events (which have no bearing anyway on this S73 application), nor do I post on local community FB groups, some of which seem to delete anything airport related anyway as the forum quickly descends into a slanging match between the naysayers and airport supporters. *Just as happened today in response to the airport's latest update. It's getting quite nasty.

Heads Up!

i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
