Leeds Bradford: Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
I think they’ve all come back the LBIA in the lull
The two EMA diverts came back. The STN divert, a MAX, was delayed. Five minutes ago, at 2245, it made a sort of approach on 32 but flew past me (Cookridge) at 4500', having aborted way before, probably over Headingley. The wind was within limits, maximum gusts were showing 32 knots. Right behind, 2 Jet2 733s landed first time. Other flights have got in too.

Having flown up from STN, making a half approach aborted several miles out, it climbed to 15000 feet and is heading South. It entered the BHX hold over Wolverhampton, made no approach, headed back North, and is now descending, apparently into MAN. I mean, what was the point?

Meanwhile the wind has increased at LBA (250 deg 25 knots, gusting 40 knots) with the KLM E195 E2 and a Jet2 738 both going round early. It seems that the 32 approach is a problem before they even reach LBA. Unstable approach? Maybe some windshear? The Jet2 is diverting to MAN. The KLM is holding at 10000 feet for now.

Clearly going to be major disruption for most of today however come around 2100 it will look like nothing has happened with the weather. Will be lots of catching up to do. More than just LBA affected though but no doubt it will be LBA that gets all the bad press. And I am sure there will be comments from certain quarters that this sort of disruption would never happen at DSA- yawwwwwnnnnnn!

Makes little sense as to why he didn't at least have another approach given that Ryanair and Jet2 landed in front of him then Jet2 behind. Feel's a lot last night that the Lanzarote crew were very inexperienced in LBA.

I bet easyJet cancel both the palms and Malaga flights after both have diverted, obviously I not at LBA but where I am in Armley it dint seem 2 bad
Its blowing 270 degrees (crosswind), 36 knots gusting 53 knots. So little chance of anything until it calms down or the wind direction changes. Accirding to the weather radar, it will continue gusting in the high 30s until 2300! Not much better at MAN either and it's a crosswind there too.

End of season split load?

Nope as it’s our scheduled LS271 service. it looks like he was planned to go lightly fuelled then call into Bournemouth for Fuel uplift to get down to Alicante.

No fuelling uplift available at LBA.

Heads Up!

Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.... Landing is the first!
i must be a lunatic. Friday 25th Sept will see me doing a daytrip that involves me leaving my flat in Manchester at 1am and not getting back home until after midnight. All because I'm doing a Loch Ness and Scottish Highlands trip.... out of Glasgow
For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
